Today CC proved herself to be totally Train proof out alone. one of the fields we can hack round runs parallel to a train/tube track. Been round it a few times in company but not alone. She was awesome.

I used to have a paddock that the railway line ran along side. My foals were born in there and they were well traffic proof before they went anywhere near a road. The high speed London train would come whistling past and they never used to bat an eyelid. Its good training for your horse, well done.

Brilliant - what a relief for you! :)

I used to hack right next to main London line - mostly mine would just ignore, but occasionally if I was in the wrong place and we couldnt hear it coming ..... 0-60 in a couple of seconds!

Brilliant :) our boys are turned out directly across the road from a railway line, we get coal trains and passenger trains going past all day. For the first fortnight Jazz was out in that field he freaked every time one went by - since then he hasn't batted an eyelid!

Well done!
I'm lucky in that mine grew up next to a train station (and on farm). He doesn't bat an eyelid and waits beautifully at level crossings where we are now. Waiting for the day when a train coming when we're on top of the railway bridge. Think I'll be the one spooking.

Well done! Took Merlin over to some lessons in Cropredy where the line runs pretty much by the field and I was really impressed by how quickly he ignored them.

Our yard in Leicestershire was/is close to the Great Central Steam railway ... I loved hearing the 'whoop whoooooo' of the trains as the light faded on a winter's afternoon ...

Anyhoo - however much the horses got used to them, there were 2 bridleways you really didn't want to time wrongly: one was a tunnel under the track, and one was a bridge over it.

The trains used to give a warning whistle approaching the bridge, but I do remember mistiming it one day many moons ago ... was one of the er ... more 'interesting' hacks of my lifetime :p

My horses lived for years by a trainline with express trains and heavy goods trains, which rarely caused a reaction. Then we moved by a river with narrow boats passing. Cue utter hysteria from the nags.

Mine's not bad with them... :D

Love the pics! My pony then used to cross the road to see the train coming out the other side! Nutter. He used to live in a field next to a railway track and our house wasn't far away from the station. I used to hack home past the station and under the railway bridges. He is fab with double decker buses and trains as a result.

It's amazing what they get used to - a lot of people shoot on the property where my horses live and gunshots don't even warrent a lifting of the head. I'm ususally the one jumping out of my skin!
