Im leaving my yard in 2 weeks and my YO is also my trainer. She has got the hump as im leaving and hasnt really spoken to me since giving my notice. Anyway I still need help with the progress of my youngster (mainly sj) and tbh I havent had many lessons with him as he has only been properly working since Jan. So heres the question do
a. ask her to still be my trainer even though she seems fed up with me and travel to hers for lessons still
b. As i really need help only with sj go to other trainer nearby wjo is BSJA trainer but who doesnt get on with YO (but comes highly reccommended)
c. forget both of the above and find someone else!!!!

dont know what to do. Maybe she is so grief striken im leaving she can face speaking to me- ah hem!!!

Tricky! Your current trainer/YO knows you and your horse so you won't be starting from scratch. It is also a shame to leave on a sour note. Couldn't you get her a box of nice choccies and a sincerely written card thanking her for everything she has done for you at her lovely yard and how you will miss everyone etc, etc.

In the livery business YO's know that customers vote with their feet, so she might well believe that you are leaving because her establishment isn't good enough for you. If this isn't the case and you are simply leaving because the new yard is nearer home, or suits your budget better then it would be as well to let her know.

Then.. she will be far more likely to carry on teaching you!

Thats not much help!!!!!

What I mean is do I stick with things even though it may be a bit awkward or try something new?? Its all new to him anyway so its really me I suppose, It such a shame as things were fine till I gave my notice we have become good friends

Never mind

YL- I told her and she knows im leaving due to finances but she seems to have taken it more personally.

Was going to do something for when I left but thought do I make the clean break or not?

Its stressful enough leaving!!

What I'd do:

If you think she's the best thing since sliced bread as a teacher then I'd go down the 'chocs and card' route, stating you're mortified to have to leave her lovely yard, but to enable you to afford your horse(s) and to carry on having lessons, you've had to leave.

If she agrees to carry on teaching you, see how the first lesson goes, if all OK carry on, if frosty atmosphere, think again.

If you think you and horsey still haven't massively gelled with her, look elsewhere.

If you have become good friends with current YO she may jump at the chance of continuing your lessons and it could break the ice.

I think I would probably wait until I had actually moved yards and then think about it.

Its not very professional of her to treat you that way.

I would ask her if you could still have her as your trainer if you are happy with her. If she still has the hump or messes you around I would check out other trainers or the BSJA one (sounds like your YO falls out with a few people if the trainer doesn't get on with her!!). Sometimes it does help to have a few lessons with other trainers apart from your regular one.

Good luck

Thanks all. Will wait till I move first and see how it is when I have left. Its very difficult and Im not the sort of person who wants any problems. Moving is such a pain!!! But i agree that maybe its time for a change anyway.
