I am pretty sure that at all the riding schools I've used in the past, trainers are an absolute no-no and not allowed.

I always make sure I ride in something that's got a heel.

Daughter has had an invitation to a pony party where they will be riding. It says on the invite to wear leggings and trainers.

I don't know the parents well and I'm pretty sure their daughter doesn't ride. I don't know if the dress code has come from the stables they are using, or if they have put that on the invite themselves. So I don't know whether I should say anything? I don't want to come across as interfering but it does concern me.

Am I worrying unnecessarily? I have visions of small children getting trapped in the stirrups (unlikely I know but ...)! Or are trainers perfectly OK?
(Don't worry my daughter will be wearing her joddy boots regardless).

Wine for anyone who's read this far without sending me off to Netmums.:D

Some riding schools who are set up for this sort of thing (parties etc) have stirrup cages so that trainers can be accomodated for lead rein lessons. HOWEVER, I would call and check with the parents whether this is what the stables have asked as, if not, they may have misunderstood the 'no trainers' message and be turned away when they arrive.

YABU! YANBU! delete as appropriate!
No, I am very fussy about what my daughter has on her feet too when she rides. But pony riding parties are more like beach donkey rides, kids do walk on quiet ponies, rather than what you or I think of as our children riding i.e. small child & naughty pony with dreams of the national at full pelt.

Thanks both. I think I will ask.... we've done pony parties at another riding school locally and they insist on suitable footwear, so I was a bit surprised.
Glad to know IANBU, if a little neurotic :D

Um, I'm not sure what AIBU means (Am I Being Unreasonable? Never seen it shortened before but it gets said a lot on here!) but I don't let my OH ride in trainers, I certainly wouldn't let a child! Although having said that I guess their feet are likely to be smaller even compared to pony stirrups so a bit safer?

If I were you I'd check website of place they are going to and see if the code is from there... I suppose the trainers could even be for games and the stables lend boots for the riding?

I'd send your own daughter with her boots (other whatever more appropriate footwear she has) in a shoe bag and tell her to change out of the trainers for any riding.

Only other thought is... are you sure they won't be vaulting? No boots OR hats for that :-)
