Following on from my earlier thread about our awful jumping lesson, I'm going to invest in some flatwork lessons to sort of some of the issues that have been pointed out to me.

There are two trainers who regularly come to the yard but I'm also willing to travel if I have to. I'd say about 45 minutes from Ingliston CC in Bishopton, Renfrewshire is probably going to be the limit.

Has anyone ever had lessons from Paul Hayler? I believe he's based in Essex?
Does anyone have any recommendations?

The other two trainers I know of are Olivia Wilmot, who I've had a lesson with before, and Jill Grant, who I know has a good reputation.

Thanks in advance. :)

I really rate Jill, she thinks "outside the box" when necessary with difficult horses and I've seen her get good results with horses and riders of all standards. Les Smith although not in your area travels around and is very good - keeps things simple and effective. David G is also very good on the flat as well as jumping and he's local to you and does clinics at Ingliston.

Agree Jill grant is fantastic. Lots of little tips - she's really tactful rider and able to teach other this too. Great at spotting little things that really help. Always come out feeling like we've done amazing.

Linda Barnes gets a good reputation too.

David gatherer is always good as well and can interlink the jumping and flatwork for you too if it helps

Had lessons from Jill Grant & she was really good but due to her moving/accident etc I'm now using Ailsa Gilchrist who is fab!
Linda Barnes also comes 2 my yard & altho I've never had lesson from her wot I've heard of her teaching sounds good & those who do have lessons really rate her
Olivia fab as well- I do mainly jump with her but had few flat lessons while had no jump saddle. Have 2 say its a real work out doing a flat lesson with her & that's when I managed 2 keep my stirrups, a killer when she takes them off u...... !

hi bloodmagik

I train with Paul most of the time - he is based in essex but he goes up to yorkshire and to scotland pretty regularly - I think a lady called Celia organises his clinics near you. Personally I think he is a really good trainer - he trains all sorts of people and horses and he has produced quite a few horses to Grand Prix, is on the BD committee that writes the tests. Although he is only really a dressage trainer he did used to event and teaches a few eventers so isnt completely clueless about jumping. He has a fairly classical german type training system, I find him easy to understand and he is a very nice guy, encouraging and whilst he will push you he won't belittle you.

awesome :)
I'm not wanting to do advanced dressage or anything. I just need some help getting my elephantine horse to work correctly so we can improve our jumping. He was an absolute toad today.

I think I'll book a lesson with Jill and one with Paul and see who we get on with.

thanks for all your help, guys :)
