I am going to be training a 4yo horse, she is an ex cart pony and is a little bit shy but never scared. She is VERY forward especially in trot, she is also VERY sensitive on rein contact so you have to ride holding near the ends of the reins.

Looking for some advice/tips on slowing her down and making her come back to walk, not rushing to canter and basic schooling.
She also tends to stop at one end of the arena and not the other.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'd get a good trainer who can help you with this - I knew a girl at my old yard who had a young cob former cart pony and it was manic in the trot and canter, just used to rush everywhere - took years to calm her down and that was with a good trainer who really took her time with the rider (who lost her confidence because this little cob would go so quick with no way of stopping her).

I have no experience with retraining cart horses so cant offer more than that I'm afraid - I doubt any of the exercises I'd try with a normal horse would work for something that doesnt accept the contact, so I'd suggest if this is outside of your expertise as well, get a good trainer who has had experience with driving ponies and knows how to retrain them.
