Partners Labrador is just 1 yr old and has had decent basic training since being tiny.
He would never in a million years stand on furniture or kitchen counter tops if we or anyone else was around. However as soon as we are not, anywhere is fair game!
The big muddy paw prints and missing objects are a dead giveaway!
We don't leave food so nothing tempting but he will climb up to take any random objects or just to have a nose!
Is there any way to stop this?

He's still a juvenile (probably until he is about 2) - all the puppy exploring/curiosity problems but with size!! Just don't leave anything within reach for another year :)

Hard to train anything when you're not in the same room, just try to limit his access when you're not around (he's still a pup and he is being left alone in a doggy adventure playground!) until he's up a bit.
Took mine about four years!!

Ah ok! We have double trouble as my other lab is a great chewer so they work as a team! One steals one wrecks ;)
They are not left much but it's when they are filthy and put in the utility room to dry off or something it's a pain! Unfortunately our house is a bit strange and the front door enters the utility room so anyone coming to the door see's a muddy dump!

Mouse traps. :-)

Took the words right out of my mouth, she did! :)

But make sure the wire spring thingy rises away from the dog so he gets surprised, not hurt. You don't want to catch his tongue.

Also, bait + light thread + pyramid of empty beer cans containing a few pebbles.

Yes, we turn the wire away so it can't catch them, but gives a right 'snap' and flings itself at them. We have never needed to use it more than once.
