Hi everyone, this is my first post so hoping to get some good advice :)
I have a 3yr old cob mare who i have for the past year been working with, she is doing great and taking things really well.
Today I started long reining her, she wasn't too sure to start off with but she got it by the end of the session.
I have read up on the process of long reining and a lot of people have said that I should be using boots to train her in.
What do you guys think? Should I be booting her up in case she hurts herself?
Thanks in advance

Hi Lilliespeace, and welcome to the forum. I would consider whether she's shod, whether she's on the roads, and her conformation. My lad, a l/w cob type hasn't ever worn boots, and he has a whopping great splint which he did I the field...

I have never put boots on to long-rein, but then mine are native ponies who don't have shoes, so we don't tend to have problems.
Generally I would advise boots as a reaction to a specific problem, rather than a precaution. He's got enough to think about.

My cob jumps 90cm solid fences without boots... Unless she has a specific conformational fault I wouldn't bother. Boots can cause as many problems as they solve as it's not good for their legs to heat up either.
