I have recently bought my first 3 year old to break and bring on hopefully for showjumping/x country, however i do not want to neglect the all important flatwork. My biggest fear and hate is having a horse the rides with its head in the air or pointing into the horizon. As this horse is still untouched i would love any advice or tips to get my horse to bring his head nicely into the correct position. There are so many training aids on the market, for lunging, schooling and general riding im undecided on what will "work".
Thank you:)

Forget about a "nice" head position and allow him to find his own balance and work forwards into a soft contact without gadgets or any rubbish tying his head down. Get a decent instructor to guide you in his training too.

A well balanced, mannerly horse who doesn't tuck his nose into his chest should not be your biggest fear

Is the original poster for real? YOu have an unbroken three year old and your are asking about how to ride it with head down and in?

I recommend get the assistance of a good instructor on the ground.

Yes....I am for real. I have 20 years riding experience and worked at 4 different yards, 2 of these being racing yards where the idea of breaking is getting the horse on the gallops. I feel in 20 years i have plenty of experience to be able to break and produce a 3 year old, however there are certain things im not sure about hence coming on here asking for advice from others! sensibly other people have suggested getting a good instructer on the ground and this i will do, but i will not be insulted by people like you! If you have nothing decent to say do not say it,

Watch your halo does not slip and choke you oh perfect one?
