Training to be an instructor...while working full time,is it possible?

Is it possible to work full time and still train to be an instructor?
I currently have a full time job which im happy in but in july this year i am getting married and moving about 80miles from my current job.

I graduated in May 2009 (none horsey degree) and have been unsuccessful getting a graduate job. Im still trying but have started to think about my other options...

I have always had this little dream of being a riding instructor... preferably a free lance self employed one!

So is it possible to gain an instructors qualification WITHOUT working at a riding school or training establishment... i couldnt afford to quit my current job at the moment... but would maybe like to do it alongside my current/future job to add my income.

ive owned my own horse for 10years and have been riding for 12ish years... helping a number of other on my yard of all abilities and confidence levels... sort of giving them free lessons. Ive also ridden this summer a number of horses of various ages and abilities if thats relevant! x
 
Yes it is. My friend is a police officer and she is currently working towards her PTT. Check out your local equine colleges for evening courses geared towards the BHS stages and PTT exams.
 
A lot of riding schools run evening courses to train people for BHS stage exams. I work full-time but I will take my stage 2 this year, but not because I want to teach - I wanted to work towards something while my youngster can't be ridden so much.

yes cause im doing it! took my stages 1 and 2 and nvq 2 whilst at college at 16 now im doing my stage 3 (im in my thirties now!!!) i did a equi study course to get ready for the exam, and fit it all in around my horse and full time job!
i promise you it can be done.

Was this when they used to tell you on the day that you'd passed though?? When I did my stage 1 just over 2 years ago, it took 2 weeks for my certificates to come through. I wouldn't want to risk failing on something stupid, and then lose a chunk of my next exam fee!
 
Yes it is, as long as you've got the experience and don't mind putting the extra work in!

I did my Stage 1, 2, 3 and PTT whilst being in full time education and studying a Law degree, and became a BHSAI when i was 21.

So yes, go for it!
 
Yes it is!! I worked full time in an office and did my stages 1, 2 and 3 and PTT within a year. I got the syllabus from BHS and went to a local training centre once a month for lessons to ensure I was doing things the BHS way!! My riding was ok as I evented my own and other horses, but you still need to do a bit of training at a BHS centre so you know what the examiners will be expecting.
