Has anyone used the double and do you mind sharing your thoughts? Particularly if you've tried different bitless styles.
We've tried side pull, cross under, English hackamore and German hackamore. She's nice in in all of them really but the brakes and finesse in the German hackamore are so much lighter ... was wondering about trying the transcend double for her.
Just for info she's a very sensitive ex racehorse who doesn't like bits at all . She relaxes instantly bitless xx

I have a Transcend side pull, so not much help, but was just going to say that the Light Rider is like a cheaper version of the Transcend double (comes in a few different styles) in case you wanted to try that first before investing

I use a Transcend double with both of my horses and they go beautifully in it. With Jack I've done dressage, jumping, loads of hacking and a couple of fun rides. He is incredibly responsive to light cues from the bridle but this is also something that has come from the way I train.

I have tried Jack in a few other bitless options previously (bosal, orbitless, headcollar, lightrider) and he made very clear very quickly that he hated every single one of them! The Transcend is his favourite bridle by a long way.

I have got a Transcend for one of my ex racers. He really doesn't like being bitted & just sticks his head in the air and champs. I have hacked him out in it & he was a complete & utter PITA, but that was because he doesn't like hacking & he would probably have been even more of a PITA bitted.

He has had his teeth extensively done, wolf teeth removed that were in the way of the bit which did actually make quite a difference, but he still doesn't like being bitted. He is 19 & has type 2 PSSM (p3, px) so we only potter in the school now, but he goes a lot better in the Transcend than bitted.

Maybe see if you can find a 2nd hand one on eBay/FB marketplace? I would lend you mine if you're anywhere near me (N Beds).

I’m happy to sell mine if you’re looking to buy as like I said I’ve given up!

others I tried were the zilco petal, s hack and simple side pull. None come close to the transcend double.

Can't comment on the Trascend as haven't ever used this, but I did try the Orbitless with mine (profile pic), gypsy cob.

For a few months all was OK and I felt she was going rather well in it; then within the week we'd had two occasions where she'd tanked blindly in canter by poking her head out high in front and hollowing her back.

Just for something to try, put her in a mild Happy Mouth snaffle, and she was much much better. More relaxed, and no repeat of the behaviour. Also got her checked over in case of any soreness.

The bodyworker I got in to look at her said that not all horses suit going bitless - there are a lot of nerves around the head muzzle & nose area which can have a negative impact on bitless bridles simply because of the way they work.

We are now riding bitted and mare is much happier.

I have a pair or split reins that I use for things like hacking and jumping and I also have a set of double reins (a standard thickness one and then a thin one for the curb) that I use for schooling.

It depends if you want the extra level of refinement that two sets of reins provide or if you only want to be thinking about one pair of reins at a time. :)
