When I first got Chilli, I was under no illusion that bringing her back into work after her long but well deserved holiday would be easy. But when I tried her, something in me said I had to have her, even though she was the opposite of what I was looking for. Two days later she was with me. Here is a photo of her a couple of days after she arrived with me:

About eight months after having her: still so tense and resistant, I was wondering what I was doing wrong as I hadn't seen enough improvement in that time. Bad position on my part and tense and unyielding on hers.

And now onto this evening. After a few months and several good lessons, two saddle changes, good feeding and a lot of hard work we are here, and recently scored a PB of 74.76% at Novice. In our first ever test together we couldn't get 60% at Prelim.

I can't say that those pics are the best (she's in season and I am badly hungover today!) but I'm proud of the change in her (and me!).

She has gone from a M saddle to a W, a 20" girth to a 26", is now 16 and going as well as ever. I'm so happy with her at the moment, and can't wait to get out and about next year. We have all the time till then to improve!

Quite a transformation, she has fairly muscled up and looks quite relaxed. Glad you are suiting each other so well. Why do you have to wait till next year to get out and about?

Thank you! It has been an incredibly long road full of falls, scary incidents and soul searching but that would have made for a looonngg thread. We won't have our own transport till around May next year. She just doesn't do lorries and I can't afford the hire price to hire one enough times to desensitise. Dad doesn't really want a tow bar on his discovery as he likes to spend the weekends fishing, not towing ponies around :D So I'm busy saving for a towing car, and mum's going to treat us to a trailer when she's retired next year. I'm a very lucky young lady, even though it feels like a long time to wait...
