Transition between ponies and horses , why is it so difficult ?

I went from an 11.2 Welsh Section A (via a few riding school ponies/horses) to a 16.1hh 7/8ths TB and didn't find it a problem at all - in fact it finally felt "right". But, she was at least 12 when i got her and was generally a great schoolmistress. She had been sold cheap as she was considered dangerous, but we're only talking very lively and prone to rearing if annoyed, nothing too bad for a teenager (I was 15 when I got her). I think it's a transition that people just aren't well-enough prepared for. It's the arrogance (at the very worst end) that comes with knowing you've got a pony going great (it prob would have gone great whatever) and suddenly finding that horses require much more tact and actual riding.

When my 14.1hh pony couldn't cope with competitions any more a very kind woman at the yard let me ride her 16.1hh 6 year old mare. I never really enjoyed riding her as much as I thought, because, being a horse, she never really thought for herself - I even nearly ended up jumping out of the school. I had never really had the fun of a good jumping pony - my first pony was a nightmare to even get round a 2' class. So we went out looking at full up 148s, which would hopefully last me until I left home (I'm not very tall)

I ended up with a 14.2 connemara gelding. He's giving me all the fun I would have missed out on with a horse and teaching me at the same time. I knew I could never do a big horse talented horse justice, but with Beny we got out and do what he does best - charge around and have fun. I'm 15 now and intend on keeping him until I leave home, unless a suddenly grow a huge amount, then my mum can have him

I havwnt read all the replies either, sorry if i repeat

I think its because horses have a different build dont they, so its a diffeent action to what your used to.
I only ever ride welshies, dso when i get on my friends 16HH anglo arab i just bounce about in the saddle and cant even begin to think about hgetting hm to work properly, i can stay put in walk, trot canter and jumping, but to behonest he more decides what to do!
Alot of people go from welsh or cob types onto warmbloods or more sporty horses, so theres the whole change in action as well.
I am actually too big for mine, im 5'10, and tohugh i ride my 12'2, im obviously too big for him, and my 14'2, my legs are a bit long on, i need something around 15'3, but i prefer ponies so much more!
My mums the opposite to most peple...she DOESNT want me gettin a horse (she goes by the rule, bigger the horse, bigger the hooves, bigger the bruises if you get trodden on)
