I ride in a riding school, and I've decided that I need to start riding the bigger horses. Up until now, I rode a 14hh pony for about 8 months, and then a 13hh pony for about 4 months, and recently I rode a 15.2 cob (I think he has some heavy horse in him?!). I felt like such a bad rider on him, trotting was awful, cantering was a little better as he has such a lovely canter. His strides felt huge, and as it was a busy day yesterday we didn't have much room to ride in. Any suggestions? He's a lovely boy, just quite young and excitable.

Really, its just a case of practice makes perfect. The more you ride him, the more you'll adapt to him. It's difficult to give precise advice without seeing you ride. It could be in part that the cob needs riding in a different manner to go well, it could be you just need time, it could be as simple as the cobs saddle not being a good fit for you. But unless your very experienced getting on a new horse & riding it as well as one you are used to requires time. The only way you get to have the experience to get on anything & ride as well as normal first time, is lots of practice, both of basics on a familiar horse then by riding lots of different ones. If you are at a good rs though, really if its anything other than just practice you need, then your instructor should be picking up any specific problems & be giving the help & advise to overcome them.
