Hi,

I have a new forest gelding which I compete regularly, showing him in the summer in M&M classes etc. I have quite a bit of experience showing at local level, but am making the transition to Affiliated this year.

Can anyone give me any advice, ANYTHING gratefully received from tack/turnout to what judges look for most, best 'individual show' plans, etc etc anything at all, want to make sure I don't miss anything!

First affiliated show is saturday so need to get things organised ;)

Thanks! :D

Where you off to Saturday?

I have 2 young Newfies. NPS is the best (& cheapest) society to join, and has a fantastic summer champs and a good range of different classes to qual for.

Who is your boy & how is he bred? (Any piccies?! :D )

My sure your tweed jacket is well fitting, and that your shirt/tie combo compliment it nicely.

If you've been showing a lot locally you'll know what turnout should be :) Just remember novice classes are certain snaffles only and make sure your schooling is right up to scratch and that your show is short & sweet but shows off every pace well :)

And make sure you have a groom to help you for the stip down part too! Always handy!

Its the BSPS show at Sparsholt College! Thanks, will have a look at NPS.

He is Aldermoor Charisma, Forest bred out of Aldermoor Lily Of The Valley, and by Buckland cruiser :) Will try and find some pics;)

That's fine he's ridden in an eggbutt, although goes a lot better with a flash on, we're only doing a Heritage Pure Novice M&M do you think I should use the flash or not?!

Thanks

Defo no flash in my opinion, something that needs avoiding in a M&M class (unless it's workers although I still wouldnt!)

I may be making the trip to Sparsholt, depends if I can be bothered to do 2 early shows in a row as we are at an NPS show on the Sunday :D

Buckland Cruise is a nice sire :) Get some nice big ponies from him!

I've had a few forest bred ponies, so laid back!

I think you'll need to join & upload to something like photobucket and paste the

That was my thought on the flash, will just risk it i think and go without ;) Oooh what NPS show is on sunday?! My boy is a chunky 14/14.1hh

Any idea's on good places to look for show schedules?

Will try the pics thingy!

Rupert we are also about to make the transition to affliated too! With our NF although it is my daughter who rides him not me! How exciting. No tips from me as we are just starting out too but would be interesting to keep in touch and share experiences!

Smart boy - bigger version of one of my old Newfies!

We're off to NPS Area 25 on Sunday at Badgeworth. Taking the rising 4yold out inhand for a leg stretch in the Home Produced & the Leyhills, He's not looking amazing but I fancy an outing! Not been out for a while as had last year off affiliated whilst i broke in my other boy etc.

Yes, would defiantly be useful to keep in touch! What area are you based in? Ah yes, I show him myself (I'm a junior but compete in adult classes as he is really not suitable as a child's ride!!)and have to get everything ready myself etc as my mum is not at all horsey! She turns up with the lorry just as he needs to be loaded, drives us there, sits in the living, watches our classes, then takes us home :o Luckily I have various friends that show, 2 of which who compete to a high level who have taken me under their wing and give me help :D

Ah he is gorgeous! Good Luck!

Your boy is lovely! I will try and post some of our boy when I get chance. He is forest bred too, done quite well locally so just going to have a go at some affiliated stuff and see what happens! My daughter is only 9 bless her but very tall and focused for her age. Her pony is 13.2hh so she should have a little while on him yet. We are is Sussex where are you based?x are you on facebook if so pm me your details if you like as I'm on there more often than on here x

Thanks :p Good luck, what are you entering? We are only doing the BSPS Heritage Pure Novice as its his first 'showing' show of the season. Doing a few more classes at the NPS Show in Parley 3rd March :)

He is lovely, very similar to my boy who is also forest bred, and a tad off 14.2. We probably won't be ready for affiliated this year as he has not been easy to bring on, just making progress now. Best of luck with him, we expect regular updates on results.. Just make sure you enjoy yourself, where you come doesn't matter, there is always another show next week

I have added you :) you aren't too far from us, we may go along to watch at Sparsholt to get some ideas, but our first big show is going to be the NPS one at Crofton in April as its not too far and gives little one more time to prepare. Its so scary I don't know what to expect at all! Just to survive and hold our own in the class would be enough!

Will keep an eye out for you at sparsholt then ;) Think we are doing the NPS at crofton in april too :) I'm sure you'll be fine, we are just going this weekend to for experience, and maybe do the NPS parley one competitively ;)

Ah thanks, yeah luckily I'm not a very competitive person just enjoy the days out, and as long as he tried his best I'm happy :)

He looks lovely and your turnout is smart and workman-like, just the thing. My only advice would be to lose the red ribbon, it detracts from the workman-likeness and make sure that your show is short, judges tend to lose interest if shows go in for too long.

Thanks, Do you mean the red scrunchie in my hair? Think I have a navy one I used hunting but unfortunately I have to wear one or my hair falls out (have very thick long hair)

Was thinking walking away from the line up, a figure of eight in trot then a short side of canter change the rein and side of canter again?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V56lMo8HeMo this sort of thing- please excuse my position don't know quite what happened there and this was after he had 3 weeks off work so his 'green-ness' is exaggerated and he's working much better now :o ;)

Thanks everyone!
