Hi All,

I posted previously about trailer hire. I had some helpful comments with some suggestions but I havent had much luck, and am now wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for transport to local shows.

I do not think I can afford to buy a trailer/lorry until next year but am desperate to get out to some competitions this summer, just dont know how to get there. The problem I have is a very large and long 17'2 horse! He travels perfectly but its just finding something he will fit in and that wont involve me having to spend a fortune anytime I go anywhere.

Or if anyone knows of any companies in the chiltern area that dont charge a fortune for hire and have something he will fit in?

Something else suggested to me was finding someone with something that may want to share fuel costs etc, do people do that?

Sorry I didnt see your first post but I hire a trailer for 6 months at a time. I too have a big and long horse (wide and 17.1ish, wears 7 ft rugs etc). Anyway I hire from a place called LOC Trailer hire - they are based in Dorking in Surrey but as you only need to go once every 6 months its not too far from you just a trip round m25... its about £700 for 6 months over summer (slightly cheaper over winter) and they have the new model HB511's which have plenty of space for 'bigger boned' nags. Highly recommend them - I have had trailers from them for 2 years on a rolling 6 month contract, get offered a brand new one every six months but happy with the one I have!

I know you mention that you have previously thought of trailer hire, have you thought about hiring a trailer for a full show season? it was something that I looked into when I was getting a trailer, and yes, if you have a car that can tow two horses, you may be able to find someone who may want to share fuel costs to shows etc or even better find someone on your yard and go halfers on a trailer :)
