aside from hiring private transporter, are there any other ways of getting transport? I don't think sharing a load is a great idea for us, because we want to do this with minimum upset and fuss.

How much does it cost to hire a small self drive box? and anyone know of any in northants or leics??

Atacanter near Huntingdon (so probably a bit far south for you) are now on their winter rate of £99 per day. Excess mileage charge after first free 200 miles is 30p. They hire out very smart Theault 3.5tonne van conversions.

*gulp*

That's what I thought too but I've had to hire one a month ago to go to York and it was so much easier than trying to nurse my ancient 7.5 tonner there and back - and probably cheaper when it came to fuel as well.

well, we worked out, for an average small lorry it will cost us 40 pounds in deisel to get there and back, so paying 150 pounds or even 100 pounds sems alot.
I just don't know anyone with a lorry though

. I could borrow a trailer easily, but again, have no-one with a 4x4.
