hi everyone :-)

i am looking for a company to bring my horse from Birmingham to Scotland. i have called Eric Gillie and they quoted £250 plus VAT. i was just wondering if there is anywhere cheaper that I can try.

thanks!

xx

I wouldn't use anybody other than Gillie's tbh (I used to send horses between Hants and Scotland regularly, always used them)

Yeah i think it is a shared load, collecting on a Wednesday, staying overnight at the Gillie's Kelso yard then delivering on the Thursday morning.

They do have a really good reputation and I suppose that is most important at the end of the day!

Yes, another vote from me for Eric Gillie. Tranported my horse in shared load Bedfordshire to Darlington and back 3 years later (about 225 miles). Absolutely fab lorries!!!!
There may well be cheaper, but you'd be hard pushed to find better!

Yes Gillies are excellent and I think that is a pretty good price TBH. When I was looking to move a horse from Cheshire to Cumbria which is only about 1/2 the distance some of the quotes I got were nearly that much.

Gillies are the best imo.How far up Scotland are you moving?
If it further up north east way or even further north thats a really good price.

Gillies are fantastic. They bought Farra down to Essex for me from Kenmore. I was kept informed of her progress and she arrived looking perfectly calm on a fantastic lorry.

Personally I would not use anyone else - they are very reasonable and high quality transporters with an excellent reputation - I did a lot of research before she was travelled.

Another vote for Gillies.

I had a horse brought from Inverness to Perthshire 3 years ago and it was £120 plus vat then so England to Scotland now for £250 sounds a great deal and the reassurance you are using a reputable company.

You wont beat Gillies for service and price seems very good to me, used them to send a pony from Scotland to Kent and brood mares from Scotland to Yorks, would highly recomend them.

It will be from Redditch to Edinburgh so about 310 miles. I drove it on Saturday and wouldn't like to do it again, especially with a horse(!), hence why I would rather pay for someone to bring him up.

Looks like Gillies gets the number 1 vote!

Thanks for all ur advice everyone :-) xx

Yet another vote for Gillies - and TBH that seems a reasonable price. I paid not much less than that to have them bring a horse from Aberdeen to the Borders 6 years ago.

Woah thats a good price. I bought a horse from just south of Glasgow once and the dealer arranged the transport to Warwick in England. Cost between £350 and £400 last year! The quote I got from Gillies at the time wasnt as cheap as yours either.

its less than a pound a mile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheap as chips!! and Eric Ghillie has excellent reputation and lovely lorries! dont think you will find cheaper even if you look!!

I had one of our horses picked up today, really impressed fab Oakley Supreme lorry, on time. The driver was interested in any specific things I wanted doing. He is staying at their yard overnight and being delivered tomorrow afternoon.

Really pleased and at less than a pound a mile its cheaper than taking him myself.

Another Gillies vote. I bought horses in Hereford and Liverpool and used Gillies to bring them up to Central Scotland.

I also sold a horse to Leicestershire and they used Gillies to take him down to them. They've always been the best price wise and their service is second to none. The one I sold was sticky to load and the driver was really good with him and very patient. He arrived 4 days later in his new home (was stabled with Gillies over the weekend) without having dropped any condition and very relaxed which speaks volumes for them

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Eric Gillies. Good Luck with your move.

Believe it or not, but I think the "spaceship" in your photo is not their biggest lorry - there are 10 horse ones, although it's sometimes hard to tell unless you look at the photos of them all together on their website!

The hair stands up on the back of my neck when I see one of their lorries - and proud to be a fellow Scot as they are obviously very highly thought off through the whole country.

I transported Tara from Kent to North of Glasgow with the Gillies

Can't fault the service - they were fab. The handlers are great and the lorries are luxurious and look so safe.

The only downside on a shared load is that the horse is travelling for hours and hours over 3 days.
On the last day Tara was in the lorry for about 9 hours just from the Borders as she was the last stop.
I'd probably do it in a one if i ever needed to do it again. Hopefully never!
