Hi all, looking into transporting a horse or two from Germany to the UK - (South Norfolk) on shared reloader. Anyone done this recently and got an idea of ballpark cost to get the horse to the UK?
We might drive and pick up ourselves but last time we did so was 10 years ago and then went Calais Dover ferry. Anyone gone with Hook van Holland daytime ferry? If yes recommendations for overnight stabling near Hook Van Holland? Thanks a lot ?

Parkers in 2016 cost me £480 each way for one horse from North Oxfordshire to near Düsseldorf and back. Took 3 days door to door as a shared load and they use the tunnel. You need the German state vet to inspect and sign the relevant travelling documents within 48 hours of travel, cost less than €50 but it was pre Brexit so I expect there is far more paperwork now. Excellent care, they take all the stress out of the organisation and I wouldn’t use any other European transporter.

Hi, update on the below, we used German based Johansmann Pferde Transport in the end. They were excellent but man Brexit is a pain in the backside, lots of paperwork and admin costs!
FYI you shouldn't have to pay VAT when importing your horse for personal use but you can't avoid the vat...

This is why a lot of dealers importing WB's have gone out of business (or the ones I know have).

When I wanted to buy another WB I spoke to two of the previous people I used to get my horses from and both had gone out of business. I think its had a bit of a knock on effect and this is why horses are fetching such huge prices, because we no longer have the influx of foreign exports.

I'd recommend Steve Airey from EHB International, he has weekly runs. Coming back is slightly cheaper than going out, Eurotunnel is more expensive than the boat but a better journey. As for VAT - as far as I am aware and I do move horses weekly too and from Europe, everyone has to pay it! Plus if it's a gelding there will be duty to pay too. That is 10%.

Hi Lafeet, thanks many say they are good. I called customs as it says in B&W on the government website you do not need a REX number / OIRE number and they confirmed we didn't have to pay the 10% duty. We were told to use import code GPPR
In the end the customs agent was happy with that so only paid the VAT. We bought a gelding for more than 6000 euro.
