So my Dad has decided that the pony needs some transport (so we can 'get our moneys worth' as he's putting it, but I'm not complaining :p ) and we were wondering what would be the cheapest way to do it?

We have a little runaround he'd be willing to sell to buy something else cheap to tow with and get a clapped out trailer to do up or he's looking at a van to covert into a side loader, rear facing one.

Any ideas? What's your set up? Have you done anything similar?

Impart your wisdom HHO'ers!

Our first try at our own transport was an old rice trailer we bought from ebay for £450. 6 years later it is still going strong but we did replace the floor and it is now used less as we bought a small box.
We made sure the chassis was in good nick and the floor solid.
Good luck

My first transport is an ifor Williams over ten years old with alli floor for £1950. Still have it and will be upgrading to a equitrek once Iv got the money so I can stay in something warm over night.

Yeh that's the kind of thing we'd be looking for but we have a ford KA, a little fiat and a criterion c4 so nothing he could tow with!

Also, what cars are suitable? To tow a 15.2 and a 14.2 so atleast a tonne

U r only a few weeks behind me! I bought a cheap Rice trailer 2 weeks ago & it's currently undergoing 'surgery' ie Floor. Brakes. Service etc. Whilst my freelander tows it & him ok I am looking at getting something bigger.

Exciting times good luck!!

Oh and i meant to say....i wouldnt personally recommend the van converting route. Its hard enough getting a floor replaced exactly to spec for an old rice (ifor is easier) but a van would have more complexities to be confident with (i would think) ie strong enough chassis? Balance? Etc. But im no expert!!!

My Dad's made cars and worked in trailer places ect. so he knows what hes doing and he knows people with all the equipment for lowering floors and things. He'd just concerned about it not getting that much use and having to pay for tax and insurance and things for it to just sit there
