Hopefully in the next two weeks I will be transporting my mare from Gloucester to Manchester with is a 3 hour drive. We are going to rent a box with a front and back open - which is what she's always traveled in with me. On a Dually halter, with the front of the box open, she will load after having a 2 minuet paddy - so loading isn't a problem. The majority of journeys she's been on while I've had her are around 15 minuets to an hour. Her previous home said they didn't travel her much at all, even though she is 12 she's not been boxed much! So I need ideas on how to make her journey - 3 hours - as comfortable for her as possible.
The problems are - she swears like mad and then the sweat drips off her onto the floor so my worry is she slips on that. She also pushes herself right back on the back door of the box and panics, she also screams for her life! She will happily stand after being loaded with a licky for 15 mins but as soon as the doors are shut she pushes back on the door and screams. She travels with a hay net but doesn't bother with it and I have tried traveling her with straw down so she doesn't slip on her sweat but I'm worried that that would be more slippy?
Any ideas how I can make her journey nice for her?
