I need to get my friend's ned moved from kent to Yorkshire just after Xmas. Any ideas of where to find not too expensive transporter. Would it be cheaper to hire a lorry?

Most transporters are £1.00 per mile and they charge for both diretions of travel.... probably about the same to hire a lorry really!

Woah, that's a long old way! I'd try a reputable transporter to be honest. It may save you a little (they may do you a 'deal' if they need to do another job coming the other way for example) and it saves on the hassle front too. I was recommended http://locltd.com/ by my YO but unfortunately that were booked up for about 4 months when I rang! So I used someone else. Good luck!

When I bought my mare in Jan 2006 (Blackpool to Brecon) we used Boothroyden Transport Tel: 0161 653 6483
Mob: 07710 837472 . They were very helpful and also brought all her equipment & tack. When I googled horse transport there was a site where you put your requirements in and it was sent to multiple hauliers who then contacted you with their quotes (which varied from £250 to approx £600 !) another of the more reasonable quotes was Mark Savage
Tara Horse Transport 01757 288009. Hope this helps

i wouldnt use them their in manchester for a start so will charge you to go to kent you want a kent firm (believe me in the horse world everything down south is cheeper) they are damned expensive
i moved my mare from canterbury/dover kent to manchester for abou 280 pound
i forget who it was now but i waited 4 monts untill the lorry was full that split the cost 4 ways they wanted nearly a thousand
same sort of trip really?
ring around and ask if theyve got anyone else going eg showjumpers or racehorses and pop your horse in with them

Hi thanks for that. It's much the same as the find horse transport one, though less details about the transporters. Was thinking I couldn't find it on DEFRA.
