Does anyone have any experience of transporting a horse from the South East to Scotland (border country), and if so who would you recommend to use, and what were the approx costs? Any information gratefully received!

My horse came from Scotland with Eric Gillies. Can definitely recommend! They even phoned me on a Sunday to let me know that my boy was coming earlier than planned! As they do part loads to come south they must do them going north too!

Again, Gillies are great :D Have transported mine from Glasgow to Bedfordshire (£200ish) South Dorset to Dundee (£250ish) and then Dundee to the Borders (£150ish)over the years.

I did get quotes from other people but Gillies were always about the same as others and I really like them. They are based here in the Borders (Selkirk) anyway.

Fantastic, thanks so much everyone - Gillies certainly seem to be coming top of the list at the moment, as they have also been recommended by a couple of friends. Just for once, not sounding as though it will be as expensive as I feared ......

Roland at Perth Equestrian Transport is a great guy. I had pick ups from Wales for a very reasonable fee and he even saw one ridden for me to check it was as described. Kept in touch with me all the time and very nice way with the ponies who hadnt travelled before. Top man.

Gillies transported my friends mare from England to Scotland and kept her informed every step of the way. It was an awkward delivery with a mare who can be tricky and my friend couldnt have been happier with the service.

Have heard good reports about Roland too, a few folk at my yard have used him and been happy customers.

Another vote for Eric Gillies. They moved two ponies from North England to Scotland for me. They weren't expensive and ponies came out of the lorry looking very relaxed.

Gillies transported a colt I sold from Hampshire to Scotland.
The lady who bought him, phoned me when he arrived and said he walked off as fresh as a daisy.
Nice kind people, and rolls royce lorries!

Another for Gillies. They have stables scattered up and down the country so horses are taken off and rested as required. Eric is a lovely man and readily led my new stallion to his field for me which I was a bit nervous to do on my own!

Eric Gilles has the Royal Warrant so one of the best.I often see his huge horse transporters coming along my way on a dark night. With the lights all twinkling along the side its a lovely sight .Knowing the horses are save and speeding along to a new destination makes me feel all tingly!

I recently used Eric Gillie to transport my horse from East Sussex to County Durham. He stopped at one of their yards over night and arrived the next day total relaxed (and looking much cleaner then when he left me!!). It cost £350 (315 miles).

Another vote for Gillies. Always kept up to date during the journey. Horses have all arrived looking fantastic. Spotting their fabulous lorries on the road is becoming as popular as the Eddie Stobart ones
