Not only angry but really upset too.

So, having sent off entry forms, fees etc etc for Blair Gymkhana tomorrow, I had intended on doing the Corss Country on the horse i ride Pally. Along with my sister and her youngster, Rocco. Its a lovely course, welcoming and the people very friendly.
After 2 weeks of phoning of searching and of scrimping and saving we managed to book transport to take us. Admittedly it was at a price, but its all we could get and it was promised.
This evening, at 5pm, we phoned up to just guarantee and double check.
And what do they say?
"Oh, we meant to phone you, sorry, we can;t manage it. We've just been asked to do a big job for *Insert well known local dealer here* and have taken it instead."
Were they just not going to tell us, and just not turn up or what? Couldnt they have told us earlier?

Now, I may sound spoiled and bitter, but we have been trying to get these horses out to just one show, be it SJ or XC for the past 3 months. Each time we can't get transport or it cancels on us.
I have been looking forward to this XC for 2 months now, I didnt manage last year as Boo went lame a few weeks before.
But this kind of takes the biscuit. I could've maybe desperately tried to find someone else to take us had it not been dinner time on a friday. But who the hell will be in/willing to be interupted at this time to ask them to transport us tomorrow.

Im pretty gutted to be perfectly honest. It might sound sad but this has been the only thing thats been giving me something to look forward to since my Mum has had her problems and is now on anti depressants.

I dont think its just this but everything thats getting me down atm. Sorry for this self indulgent silly post. Just had to vent i think.

Aww, what a bugger. I know how hard you try to get transport arranged to take your ponies out and about.

It's so disappointing when you've done all the work to prepare, and then someone you are paying to do a job, lets you down as if it is their right to do so.

((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

Aww hun We had a similar thing happen to us, Is there not anyway you could hire a trailer? If you have got a car to pull it? Or any friends on the yard to blag who could take you?

I do feel sorry for you I know what its like. xxxxx

Thanks guys. Feel a bit silly, but im just so wound up about it. I was *SO excited*.

Unfortunately we don't have a car that could tow it, only a rover 45, to pull a big trailer with two 17hhers. Just not do-able.

As for anyone on the yard, unfortunately we keep our two oldies on an old run down farm, with YO;s horse... the YO hasnt looked at her old boy in about 10 years and wants nothing to do with him. And the rest are kept on rented grazing so there's no horsey people around us that can/will do it.

Sorry for the rant, and thanks for your suggestions.

Means alot just to be able to vent.

That is just disgusting. They have made a contract with you and should not cancel it to accomodate a late comer, regardless of who they are!

Hatters - We've tried 5 companies, this being the 5th, and the only one who would do it. We have, this evening, been feeling very bad by phoning friends and friends of friends just asking for favours. But no one can do it.

Its so disheartening.

Donkeymad - We were very tempted to say that, but decided to be gracious, act disappointed, and say "Maybe next time". I then proceeded to have a tantrum once the phone was put down. Lol.

Totally disgusting and unacceptable!

You have booked transport with them and they should take you! They are very naughty!

go on to www.findhorsetransport.com and see if there are any transporters able to take you-long shot at this late stage but what have you got to lose!

Thanks foraday.

Unfortunately the ones local to me on there I have already asked, they were either already booked, or they were unwilling to take us to local events.

Thanks again though.

Can't suggest anything really but really feel for you - I can understand why you are so upset after arranging everything to be let down by this company at the last minute.

Fingers crossed that you can work something out.

C x

MagicMelon - We've asked around and alot of people are going to an event on that day, further north I believe. Which is very frustrating! And, most annoyingly, the friends who may have been able to do it.. had all the wheels stolen off their trailer on Monday. Shocking!

Thanks prittstick.

We have one more chance, first thing in the morning, to see if the local feed merchants can do it with their trailer+4x4 + driver. LONG shot.

Thanks to everyone

aww Boodle, that's awful. Seeing how expensive hore transport is, you'd think they'd welcome custom.

Have you tried putting up an advert in a tackshop or feed store saying something along the lines of "transport help needed for local shows etc, will pay diesel / time ". ?

Other than that save up and buy a small box or something?

Thanks Katy, Im making an advert now requesting horse transport to local events.

Weve had horses for almost 10 years, and my parents give us all they can but they refuse to budge on getting some form of horse transport. Absolutely no way will they do it. I think it is primarily because they don;t want to have to drive the horses anywhere... they dont trust themselves!

As you probably guessed, I couldnt get transport for today in the end. Really disappointed

I'd be fuming too. I'm just about to book transport for the Shettie to a local show next month, so fingers crossed they'll do it (this is a local lady who advertisies help with transport in the feed merchants). It's worth putting an advert up.

That seems to be a common problem.

Transporters are more than happy to travel hundreds of miles, but they wont travel about 10, stay for an hour or two, then go home again, for a show.

next time you book, always pay a deposit, and get a receipt.that way you have a contract.

be careful to check out insurance when going with "friends"
