I'm looking to bring a horse over from northern Germany to southern England. I'm awaiting several quotes from transporters and wondered if anyone had any experience in this and are able to give recommendations and any companies to avoid. Thanks

John Parker for EU, then Eric Gillies for the UK. Different firms but they often work together. Not done Germany to the UK but done UK (Highlands of Scotland) to Germany! No problems and without a hiccup.

OP asked for those to avoid :)
Agree you need a good transporter in this instance, borders,, horses , passports, times, etc.

LOC International were good when I used them as the agent for transporting my horse to USA. A show jumper friend had used them a lot to bring horses over from Europe and only had good things to say also, she recommended them to me.

To use: Parkers (based Kent) Peden International (based Hampshire & Germany) or LOC (I'd be using Parkers as my number 1 as I have worked with them before).

All 3 will do the job door to door as they come in & out of the UK to europe regularly & all 3 have a transit base not far from me in the south east.

Avoid: local transporters as tho you might save money, you might well loose on experience & comfort.

Hope it works out OP :)

Thanks, I had a really good quote from LOC but slightly worried it might be too good to be true. Still waiting for Parkers to come back to me. Has anyone used Gelissen's ? They are based in Germany.

I've done three transports to / from Spain with Parkers and they've been excellent - they take great care of the horses and know their stuff. Last time (November) I emailed but got no response so I called and she'd not received the email, so it may be worth picking up the phone to check.

LOC also have an excellent reputation.

I have used Parkers, BBA Ireland and ETA (Equine Transport Agency) for international transport. The only one I would recommend is ETA, the horse was 17 years old and retired, he arrived in super quick time and came off the lorry as fresh as a daisy within 24 hours. The other transporters took from one to two weeks to transport my horses and they did not arrive in great condition.
