Any ingenious ideas to keep it contained while in car, don't want hay going everywhere.

Will be sections of hay as will take up what I need.

I was thinking garden waste bags?

The builders bag sounds good BB, sadly I've never had any luck keeping it contained and have had to fish out stray bits of hay from the car, 6 months later, a bit like pine needles from a Christmas tree...never ending.

Not tried it myself, but what about those stripy zip-up laundry bags (the ones you can get a dbl duvet in) I bet they would hold quite a lot of hay and the zip means no spillage - until the zip fails!

I use an old duvet cover to transport hay and straw in my car!

ETA - sorry, Sandstone - just seen you posted the same above!

I've got one of those cheap plastic tarpaulin type things that are garden table covers :) You can get large ones and while they definitely help with the mess I always still have quite a bit of hay to hoover out! I only have to get a bale or two in on the odd occasion as normally get it delivered.

When I did have to transport hay I found the only way to keep hay from spreading in my car was to double bag. I would put a tarp (cheap garden one) in the boot which was oversized (one that fits the floor isn't enough.. It needs to overlap and go up the walls) and then bought the cheap patterned laundry bags with zips as they were big enough. I bought a few XL ones to make it easier to load up

I use bog standard drawstring storage sacks from Sainsburys to transport my haynets. Essentially just thick bin liners, £3 for 10. Slip them over then top and double bag if needed! Imagine it would also work for loose hay as they are a decent size.

gave up and bought a cheap roof box of ebay.................................can find them on gumtree, preloved. On the plus side, quick wash with a hose and we use the box on holiday as well.

I bought a pack of 5 of the builders dumpey bags on Amazon this week, £15. Useful for transporting hay and keeping dirty rugs off the floor. They come up if you just search under 'builders bags'.
