hi guys, i am at hartpury college with my horse and he has to come home for xmas. home is north yorkshire - scarborough, and hartpury college is in gloucester. my friend brought him down here at start of term in her lorry - took about 7 hours (ouch) as we dont have a lorry/trailer. she cant bring him back at xmas so looking at alternatives. he is great to travel and even on the long journey was no probs - just a little impatient at end. can anyone reccoemend any decent transport companies?anday idea of price?also do u know if i could travel with him (am a worrier lol). cheers, h

expect to pay about 1.50 a mile

would cost you a fortune!!

Can no-one at hartpury look after him whilst you go home?

seriously?even if other horses were picked up on the journey aswell? no you have to pay for full livery whilst your away - and its only availaible for international students horses as v little space - plus wudnt b that keen on leaving him here anyway tbh

i have you know, katy..that is very competitive.....

I can recommend someone not too far away who could have him over Christmas - and her husband is a horse transporter - and they are fantastic people. the only ones I would ever trust to look after my horse. They own a yard just of junction 19 on the M5 PM me if you want details

Hi I don't know the cost but recently had dealings with a small firm called Horse Taxi I think. Their box is one of those low jobbies on a Vauxhall Movano, lovely box, nice people

really want him home tbh, he could go to a friends house altho not ideal. didnt realise it wud be so expensive really tho, may have to rethink plans. my freind is bringing him back down in the new year in her lorry so its only the one journey. may have to sell a kidney for a trailer...

is there any sales/race meets going on at the same time?? I know that some race yards can be funny about taking different horses but if he's flu jabbed you should find one, I'd defo do it, would save you loads. The only thing is you'll have to wait until close too to see who is going, if its a last resort though keep it in mind. Horses are normally entered about 3 weeks befor so not too far away for you to start ringing round

I would pay for him to stay at Hartpury over xmas. Hols are only 3 weeks and the staff look after them really well.
My boy will probs be spending his xmas there

just it'd be a nice little job just before Christmas.

no offence, but there is no way i would leave him there over xmas, i have not been particulary impressed to be honest and would worry about him the entire time...
