Transporting stranger ponies

We are going to a show on Saturday and I have been asked by a friend to take her pony in our trailer.

The ponies have met a few times on hacks we have gone on.

Is there any thing I need to think of to transport th together?

Our pony is friendly, but if he does not like you makes it well known, I am hoping that this would have shown it's head before!!

Advice please x
 
We quite reguarly give pep lifts or have a lift with other pep out hunting or when we go to shows, is there a headboard inbetween? Make sure they either both have have or don't have hay/haylege. We have sometimes just but a big haynet inbetween them both, and don't tie them up too long so that it isn't easy for them too fight, I'm sure you will be fine don't worry!
 
It is about a 30 min journey, there is a partition, and will have a net each.

I would have been confident, but just heard he was a little sod to his stable mate!!!

Have never seen this in him , but do not wish to see it I'm the back of a trailer.

If they are close by so you can do a trial run... Show days are busy and stressful enough.
We've travelled our horse with a neighbour and they were fine, and professional horse transport companies travel strangers all the time... However their partitions are usually to the floor and have head grills/guards.
I guess the key thing for me is make sure you both have adequate insurance for each pony.
We were in an accident with said neighbour, and whilst my mum could claim for personal injuries (neighbours fault), she could not claim the £3k vet bill, and god knows how much lost value to her horse.
The only way my mum could claim this was to sue via a civil case. Lucky for them my mum sucked it up as they all have to live in the locality and my mum was stressed enough and couldn't face further emotional stress (trailer did 360 degree flip nose to tail on the motorway - caused by driving too fast)
Not everyone is like my mum, and had she been inclined could have sued for thousands. Obviously this is about as bad as it gets but to also point out the neighbours insurance would cover a trailer but none of the content.
Therefore if this hasn't put you off, at least make sure she has cover would be my advise.
Hope I've not worried you too much, but go into giving lifts with your eyes wide open
 
Have just posted elsewhere that I am a trailer novice, but did do a trip to Ireland with a friend who bought two horses who were complete strangers. The one was a total star steady eddie who was impeccable the whole journey. The other was a v stressed TB who kicked and stamped virtually all the way. :rolleyes:
His companion did look a bit put out by TBs antics but basically just got on with his haynet. There was no way we could have known how this would work out in advance, the TB had travelled loads and the connie cob x hardly at all but despite their differences, they did cope with the long journey without getting fed up with each other and seemed none the worse for it.
 
My freinds cob sometimes decides to "eat" my horse, if he is in one of those moods we use an extra lead rope tied to the side to stop him being able to reach him. It is effective and has saved him being bitten several times!
 
We give a lift quite often to another PC member, and her pony and our pony squeal their heads off at each other given a chance. As long as they both have a haynet and are tied up short enough that they can't pick at one another, they are fine, and there is no problem at all.

I also used to take a friend with me a lot, and his mare and mine would take chunks out of each other unless we swopped their nets round (his yard used haylage and I used hay - they were both desperate to try the other net and would fight in the middle ground, so we just swopped the nets, and again they were quiet as can be!

I think that the only combination that you have to be wary of is two nervous travellers together, as they get worried vibes from each other..
