How long can horse travel in bandages and tail bandage or can you recommend travel boots for long travel say 4/5 hrs never having transported a horse more than an hour?
If I were travelling for that long I would be unloading and giving them a walk round after an hour and a half (that timing suits my horses) so would probably remove and rebandage then. Just to give them a break from it all. However, my lot are fine with this sort of thing, unloading in a quiet area then getting back on is not much of a problem, so doing this is dependent on the horse being travelled. And my tail bandages tend to be a bit tight...
eta ; don't forget many horses go overnight in stable bandages, so I guess it depends how tight you bandage, and how much your horse moves about!
There are tail guards that may be more suitable for a long journey. I can't comment on the legs, but I use boots generally, rather than bandages as they are easier.
I would say go for a tail guard rather than a bandage for long journeys. I personally prefer a bandage for shorter trips, but I think the guard is more suited for longer (+1hr30) times. And you can bandage for as long as you like, but dont do it too tight. If you think you have a tendancy to do it too tight, look into boots. Also, it is really good to let them have a 'breather' at about 1hr30 - 2hr. Just like we need to stretch our legs, they do too. Just make sure you can get them back in to the box!!
