Travel Boots Needed? *Advice Please!*

So, I always like putting travel boots and a tail guard on my horse when i travel as when I bought him he didn't have anything on and arrived a bit sore. Basically, I'm taking him to a show next Sunday and I was wondering do I really need to put travel boots on him (he has no problem with them) for the amount of time it takes to get there. The place (Patchetts) is only 10 minutes away from me. I just find it uses time up to take off boots and then put on a different set at shows. Would it be alright if he travelled in his (sheepskin ;)) tendon and fetlock boots. He acts really good in and coming out of the horse box and doesn't act up at all and is usually quite good going into it. I would put his tail guard on though, it is a rear facing horse box. Thanks :)
 
Personally I would always boot up, after I was taking my horse home from very local (10mins) sj and he slipped and went right down on a friends ramp in the rain. He could have had a really nasty accident if he hadnt have had boots on. But plenty of people dont bother for short distances!
 
I always boot up to travel, but I'd have thought yours would be fine to travel in his tendon and overeach boots (just add over reach boots to the back too in case he treads on himself, it's usually the coronet area that needs protecting).
 
It's all very well trying to save time but if your horse has a fall in the lorry or loading,and it does happen,you will wish you had taken the trouble.
 
My horse had a horrific accident which involved falling out of a trailer (I still cant even talk about the details as it haunts me) and without his travel boots, there wouldnt off been much left... His travel boots were in tatters. I have never put him in a trailer since (but thats another story) and certainly wouldnt be without his boots again.

I think I am just going to stick with the travel boots, it doesn't cause any harm :) Thats a good idea, hopefully they will fit on! :P

Do people travel with saddles on their horses back? I never do personally as Im worried of something happening, but my friend does and my horses old owner did. What do people think of this?
 
The show might only be 10mins from your yard but how long from leaving the yard to riding? I would not want to leave fleecy boots on my horses legs for longer than half and hour that is just personal preference but I put my boots on last and take them of as soon as i have jumped so his legs don't get too hot. It will only take you 1 minute to take the travel boots off and put tendon boots on.

I don't think they would have even fitted anyway and it probably is too much fleece on his legs. We should be there in plenty of time now that I have planned it and everything should be alright.
 
I don't boot up anymore unless horse needs it. I've known several horses that are a million times worse with boots and travel beautifully without. I would put tendon and overreach boots on if worried though.
 
I have a lorry and for short 10 min journeys I have been known not to boot up, instead having brushing boots on, however she is literally squished and held in place by partitions so it would be nigh on impossible for anything to happen to her. I do boot up for longer journeys though, being grey it helps to keep her legs clean as well as protect her!
