i dont travel my horse very often and when i have done, ive borrowed a friends travel boots. However, my horse walks a bit funny in them (as they sometimes do) and was thinking of trying bandages instead. He's got a very long journey coming up but im worried that bandages wont provide the same amount of protection as boots. Can anyone offer some advice?!

I use boots, simply because they are so easy! I have some really nice soft flexible ones though as i hate the rigid ones, and so does my horse (she nearly fell over when she wore some!).

i dont know, as i prefer bandages for the front and travel boots for the hind legs! i dont think that bandages are good for hind legs as they do not really protect the hocks!

bandages support the front legs and travel boots protect the hocks!

but if you are not good at bandaging then stick to travel boots all round!

I wouldn't worry about your horse walking funny, loads of horses do this! I would say the decent rigid boots give more protection but bandages are more supportive. I'd use bandages after a hard competition but otherwise boots are much easier to put on, and take off again so much easier if your horse doesn't want to stand still.

Boots all the way, so much more convenient

Lots of horses walk oddly in travelling boots

I use boots as their more convenient and less risk of damage (overtight bandages) and in an emergency, ie the boots get caught I feel the velcro would rip whereas bandages might get tangled

so now im gonna ask you all - can you recommend a brand of travel boot? i dont want any really expensive ones but at the same time i dont want really cheap ones that dont do the job properly. Appreciate everyone's advice!

shires do a nice set , try ebay ... I got a great set ( 4 ) for £15 from rhinegold out of ebay and they are fab for our yearling filly , she walks in them funny but so what lol , its funny to watch *sniggers*

Boots - easy to whip off in an emergency, quick and easy to fit, easy to take off if you horse gets excited at a show etc etc
