Travel boots

I have a full size set of Woof Wear travel boots (belonged to my last horse) I've used them 3 times on new(ish) horse and they are just too big.

So

What is the best make of travel boots, and why?

My Shetland has Polly Products travel boots like these http://www.horseandriderwear.com/viewima...Photo14A043.jpg but a lot smaller, I like them because they're really flexible, my new(ish) horse although travels well isn't used to travelling, so can be quite awkward to put stiff boots on, especially when I'm alone.

Any suggestions please

I like my Andrew Hoy ones, as they are easy to put on and have the reinforced bit round the feet which I like - might not be good for yours though if they don't like stiff boots!

i have premier equine ones, which are fab. very similar to mark todds. quiet bulky, but offer good protection

I have cottage craft ones which do the trick they're not too bulky and don't really move, only bugbear is that they've got fiddly fastenings so possibly not good if you've got a horse who faffs around!

I like Mark Todd ones too, only 3 velcro straps on each boot so easy and quick to do. I used them on a "beginner" to rigid type travel boots, he was absolutely fine with them apart from the twisted knickers walk, but then most horses seem to do that. They also last very well, I have a pair 4 years old, and well used too, if I washed them they would come up good as new.

Another vote for MT boots - quick and easy to put on, don't move (even with my fidget bum traveller) and durable

I personally dont like some of the more rigid kinds - however its preference as my baby boy hasn't had boots on and feel that this will encourage him to kick out -
I have purched a set of Saxon travel boots which are very soft and think elimanates to a small degreee the funny walk etc.

However one school of though is travel boots over heat the legs which in turn cause the tendons to be more susceptible to injurys and some people recomend not using them at all!!


In view of this I have the Saxon boots or may use bandages..

I love mark todd boots, all my horses have them and they wear so well and always look smart! they also have fantastic protection!! highly recommend!!

I have to agree the Mark Todd boots are good, I don't think mine are that brand but in general, you can't go wrong with ones with wide velcro fastenings for security and if your horse is ok with it, a rigid rim around the bottom as this prevents a lot of wear and tear.

In general for a fit as long as (on the front legs) the boots comes down to pretty much the ground to protect from any strike injury and it comes up behind the knee joint but not higher than so it still allows movement and the rest of the boot to fold round and sit in front of the knee to protect if heaven forbid they go down in the lorry etc (one of ours makes a habit of this regularly just for fun we thing, but they definately help).

These are just my thoughts but i hope they help.
