Hi, i recently got a weatherbeeta fleece rug from derby house, i loved it, it fits perfectly etc etc, my horse wore it at the weekend when we travelled in total for about 1 and a half hours, when i unloaded him there was a whole/rip in the side of the rug, it is about 2cm.

I rang DH and they said he must have rubbed/caught it on something to cause the tear so there is nothing they can do, is this correct? Do you think they should refund me for the whole thing or should i just ask them for a small refund to get it repaired (that's if you can repair a fleece rug!)

thanks :)

I honestly don't think you have any claim against Derby House. As they said, the rug could very easily have caught on something either whilst travelling or loading/unloading.

I don't think you have any chance of getting a refund/new rug/reimbursement for repair.

Fleece rugs are very easy to repair. Just get a needle and thread and sew it back together.

Look at it this way - if you were to wear a pair of jeans out - and you caught them on a nail that was in a piece of wood would you expect the jeans manufacturer to replace or repair. Material tears - i agree with Derby house it is damage caused by something - not manufacturing fault. I had a brand new saddle, my horse wore it once Xc schooling. He fell at a fence and rolled on the saddle and destroyed it - i was able to claim on my insurance as it was not wear and tear it was crushed by a horse, however the saddle was £1500 so insured in its own right.

no one will give you a refund for a rug that your horse has damaged - unless you can prove it is not of merchandisable quality - chalk it up to experience and scour your box walls to see if you have a splinter or a screw sticking out before you travel him again.

Could be worse, my two horses just trashed two rambo liners (mental note not to rely on filet strings rather than the clips!)

Horses have a habit of improving your sewing skills. However I agree fleece is very nice to stitch and as you've only use it once it probably doesn't smell too bad either so you can do it in front of the tele! (Versus standing out in -2oc stitching a stinky muddy turnout whilst periodically swearing obscenities at the offending monkey)

That made me smile, bloody horses!!

You are not entitled to any refund at all, if it had arrived with rip in then you would be entitled but seeing as your horse has worn it then it does not apply, same is if you bought clothes wore them and they ripped you would not get anything either.
