I have a mare that no matter what we put on her tail she will get it off while travelling which leads to her getting stressed that its flapping around her back legs. for short journeys we just leave her without but for longer journeys her tail gets too rubbed. I have travelled her in a fly rug with a good long tail flap which helped the problem a bit but am on the search for a travel rug which will give tail protection. needs to be lightweight and breathable as she does get warm while travelling! thank you for any suggestions!

How about a traditional tail guard attached to a surcingle if she's hot in a rug?

What about a sweet itch rug? Would cover the tail and be hard wearing. I think horseware have a nice linen one which has a tail flap

How do you travel her? Box or trailer? A handy tip if possible - move breast bar forward one, then you can ensure there is a gap between her backside and the trailer/box - I have the same issue with the beast but sadly the box we travel in does not allow the above suggestion, however someone mentioned it to me a few weeks ago and I thought what a simple solution if it can be achieved!

I had a NF for a number of years who always got a bandage or guard off, so i traveled him in a good old fashioned tail guard tied to a surcingle :)
