What headcollars would people recommend for use in horseboxes? I've heard regular nylon headcollars don't snap if they go down, but leather does.

I only ever travel in a leather headcollar. I haven't had one break when travelling, fortunately, but I have done during turnout so I know they will give way in an emergency. i have a spare old nylon one in the back too in case something awful happens and I have to get the horse off.

Mine travel so often that I generally only use the leather ones day to day, no point putting them away as I just need them again! At a previous yard I used to leave headcollars out at their paddocks after turning out, so I preferred to have a nylon one for that to save the leather from the weather ;)
their nylon ones are stowed away at the moment!

I travel mine in a leather one too, also keep a couple of webbing ones plus ropes in the spares as just in case.

I also have an extremely sharp knife velcro'd onto the wall at the back of the box, also for 'just in case'. I've used it a few times, but only for assisting others in a box park luckily.

I only use a leather headcollar, especially for travelling. Years ago I hired a box and horse was tied up at the side grazing, saw a yummy bit of grass just under the edge of the box and poked his nose under for it and caught headcollar on the trim of the box. The trim sliced through the leather when he pulled back and he walked away completely unscathed but I'm 100% convinced that either the box would have been damaged or my horse injured in one of those thick nylon headcollars. Either way my day out would have been a LOT more expensive than replacing a headcollar.

Only every leather for travelling but nylon for turn out/bring in as they get trashed. Use Idolo tie rings outside stables and in lorry too. Only ever use quick release lead ropes. Am I paranoid?

I only have a leather one for Rose. I also have a fieldsafe one that I used to use with Bisto but it's too big for Rose. On the rare occasions I turn her out in a head collar, I use the leather one but give it a good clean and polish afterwards. The one I have belonged to my daughter's 14.2 and is 20 years old, polished up it looks as good as new so owes me nothing.
