Travel sickness / anxiety tablets for dog, non prescription?

Looking for recommendations please. Frankie chihuahua dislikes going in the car, but has improved a lot over the years. Now he just pants and sits up for the whole trip. By contrast Bella loves going out and sleeps quite happily. His limit is 2 hours, which we try to break half way with a pee break and stretch.

In December we are travelling a bit with family, so there will be multiple car journeys. Stopping for photos and touristy things along the way, but it will also be mid winter in the Highlands.. 🥶

I’d like to give him something just to make him less anxious, as I imagine it’s quite exhausting for him. I can’t feed him before travelling, so it needs to be ok on an empty stomach.

Vet wants a visit before prescribing anything despite having seen him a few weeks ago. I’m pretty sure the last time I got tablets they were available at Pets at Home, but I won’t be near one any time soon.

I used Dorwest Skullcap and Valerian when my youngest dog was a pup as he was an awful traveller. Not sure if it worked or if he just got used to travelling with lots of short journeys, but it's worth a try.

Sturgeron works for actual travel sickness, combined with cranking the window open a little. It wont work for anxiety though, unless that is caused by feeling sick. Valerian does work as a calmer, but doesn't always help long term.

Only at high doses. Its been used for years by people and I'd still happily use it for a dog that was travel sick. Multiple doses of 10mg/kg did cause issues. The dosage for my dogs is 0.3mg/kg and they only got one dose when travelling. The one who was a huge issue, had 5 doses over a period of 2 weeks and was then fine ever after. He had 2 more doses over his lifetime, when doing 8 hour plus journeys.
 
Poingsettia's dog is a chihuahua. So at 0.3mg/kg how much of 15mg tablet would be safe for a dog weighing approx 2 to 3 kg?
