Alfie gets sick everytime we travel. We have tried doing only short journeys and he's in a crate to prevent him moving in the boot. We dont feed for a couple of hours beforehand but he always manages to find something to bring up! Today he was sick on the way to my mums and then when we got home he was sick in the garden and doesnt seem himself. Is there something i can get him from the vets to help overcome this??? We always try and make a journey enjoyable at the end but nothing seems to be working.

Ginger nut biscuits!! Give him a couple just before setting off. Also do little journeys often, get him used to it. Make sure he has lots of fun when he gets to the other side so he doesn't associate travel with negativity. Hope that helps
 
Just keep on travelling him, preferably with something he enjoys doing at the end. My Lab x staffiex something unidentified rescue dog was absolutely awful. For ages & ages she was sick. It didnt matter how short the journey. She would hide & cower whenever there was a possability of having to go in the car. We had horses in 2 yards about a mile apart at the time & I used to take her back & forth everyday & she would still be sick. I tried back seat, front seat, boot, footwell & nothing made any difference.
However, eventually the penny dropped & she is now brilliant & she travels the length & breadth of the country with me. If I leave the car open she will jump in.
Be warned it did take about 2 years but I 100% cured the problem.

How did you cure the problem? Or did the dog just finally get used to the travelling?
 
Just purely by keeping on & on & on travelling her, she finally got used to it & realised the car was for going to nice places & meant that she could stay with me all the time which is her favourite thing!!
 
It is generally recommended that a dog who suffers should be located in the car where it cannot see out of a window, I don't know what yours can see from it's cage, but could be worth trying a cloth over all or part of the cage. You can also use childrens travel sickness tablets if you don't travel too frequently.
