Can people give me an idea of how long they feel it is okay to travel a horse and then compete it on the same day in an ODE PN/Novice level. We have a lorry with air suspension which I believe makes some difference. Experiences/suggestions please!

The most we would travel would be 4 hours. But more often than not we would stay over as its more fun

We wouldnt do any more then 3hrs really, and we are lucky that 99% of the events I do are 2 - 2 1/2 hrs away.

But if I had to travel over 3.5 hrs (ish!) I would def stay over night

What event venues do you go to Holly? Im intrested as i intend to affiliate BE next season and would be intrested in visiting most off the locations you travel to

I think the furthest we've been there and back for a Novice event was 3 - 3 1/2 hours in a trailer. Anymore than that and we'd stay over mainly because it would probably mean too early a start otherwise! I prefer to not stay over if possible as since we have a trailer, we dont have easy sleeping arrangements and my horse can get stressy stabled away from home anyway.

Heres a few I reguarly go to.....

Poplar Park
Great Witchingham
Munstead
Hambledon
Nurstead - the closest
Stratford Hills - would be on your doorstep!
Eridge
Little Downham - This is the furthest
Milton Keynes
Firle
Smiths Lawn etc

There are loads that are just 2 1/2 from me, so these will all be about the same distance from you

God there is no way I would travel more than 2 hours and then compete on the same day. I would feel too wobbly & tired. Must be my age !

Thanks everyone - I was really wondering what would be the max for the horse - not us!! Ooh I would love to be able to stay even if it was only half an hour away but I'm afraid I have too much going on at home eg: dogs, more horses, kids, etc etc. Maybe oneday will stay away (if I ever make Badders I guess I'll have to stay!!! LOL)
