my horse travels really well in a horsebox, but is absolutley appauling in a trialer. If the middle partition is in he will stumble about all over the place, if you take the back peice out he bends round the back of it to stand sideways, whether theres another horse there or not and even if hes tied up really tightly. Every time you go round a corner he stumbles and his bum goes down, he then picks himself back up again, but it really is not fun! Obviously when i take the whole partition out he cannot do this but is not the best traveler still- he still tries to turn sideways!
is there anything i can do to help him or should i just accept hes not going to travel well in a trailer.
Ps. when i had him in on the left hand side he seemed OK, but apart from once we have always travelled him on the right hand side.. could this be his problem?
its so annoying as it means friends cant take me places as i worry that he will hurt himself one day by falling over or something

Is there a reason you can't travel him on the left if that is where he travels a little better? Some horses just need planty of space to spread their legs, and it is now known that horses generally travel better when facing backwards or even sideways.

the reason why we never travelled him on the left was in the trailer we borrow he always seemed to find it a bit tight getting out... i think next time i will try him on the left, but after last time i really dread taking him in a trailer again. he was standing sideways behind my friends horse and every time we went round a corner he lost his footing...

If I remember right, if only one horse travelling then it has to go on the right; and if two are travelling then the heavier one of the two goes on the right. Something to do with the camber of the road.

Not sure if legal but have you ever tried travelling him backwards?? Really works for some but not convinced its in the rules!
