Can you do this?
My horse is a bad traveller. She loaded the other day and,as soon as she was in, threw herself side to side (it was if the trailer was going around a sharp bend when in fact we hadn't even got her tied up and the back up.

Someone suggested taking out the partition to give her more room for her legs to balance herself but am sure not sure if it is something a) worth trying or b) safe/legal?

Would really appreciate your views.

Thanks
Pillow.

I have known some people to do this. My single trailer has a much wider standing room than a double and the horse balances well. Surely as long as you have the breast bar across the front it can't be illegal in a double.

Yes, its possible and perfectly legal - so long as you use a full width breast & breeching bar.

Its ideal for poor travellers as they can use the extra space for balance, and stand diagonally if they feel more comfortable.

Yes you can do it. I travel mine without the partitions. I use full length bars instead, which I bought from an IW dealer last year. I cross tie my boy and he then tends to stand diagonally and attemps to wedge himself into a corner.

He won't even go in the trailer if I have partitions in, is much happier without

Yep it is legal.

I know alot of people that do it - just cross tie the beastie and away they go. You would need full length breast and breech bars though.

As above, yes you can do it but definitely use breast and breach bars and if I were you I would cross tie the horse as well, just to be safe

Damm. I don't have a breast bar that goes the full length. I guess thats out then.

Thanks all though.

I'd recommend trying to get a full length breast bar. My big guy panicked & went down in an IW. After that he just threw himself at partitions & we coudn't travel him in a forward facing trailer with partitions again, but he happily travelled without one.

If you do try it though make sure you cross tie pony.

We had our ramp put down at traffic lights once as an orange walk were passing, the only reason my 16.3 ISH didn't manage to career panic stricken through traffic was because he was cross tied.

They aren't that expensive to buy if it means your horse travels safely and happily - what make is your trailer?

I rang Bateson, and new bars for my Ascot were less than £100 for the pair - I managed to find some second hand so take a look on ebay maybe?

Thanks. Not sure of tailer make. Think its an old Rice. Its a treble, if that makes any difference.

I got a mechanic friend to make me a single breast bar. He said it was easy. I always travel my horse without the partition, never had a problem. With the horses I've had they've preferred the extra room and stand diagonally to balance themselves.

I know for a fact that the Rice dealer will make you some bars for your trailer. We got ours for the ifor from them and they said they make them for the rice trailers there on site.
We have to travel our mare without the partition nowadays or she throws herself about and hurts herself. Without the partition she is happy and never moves.
