I have just got back from Decathlon in Stockport. This is a massive shop in a heavily industrialised area with a six/eight lane raised motorway running almost past the door.

The car park had on it a traveller encampment, complete with pet (?) bunny in a large hutch and two ponies fly grazing the small bits of grass between the customers parked cars.

I could hardly believe it!

For anyone interested, Decathlon Stockport have massively increased the horse range and are now selling a complete range of horse feed including Charnwood linseed, and shavings and wood pellet bedding.

I have no comment on the traveller site but would just like to please buy your feed and bedding from your local independent feed merchant... Use them or lose them!

Ooh that'll be an interesting sight if they're still there when I call in tomorrow. I hope my toddler who is bunny obsessed doesn't see the hutches or I will never get away!!

Sorry, I buy online, there is insufficient range of non molassed feed at any of my three local suppliers.

Your toddler will adore the ponies, they are two tiny palominos. Only one hutch. Lots of caravans.

And how on earth would you know she was buying feed or bedding? Maybe OP was buying ski equipment!.... Jeez.

They will sell thick socks as well.

Unfortunately Decathlon sell those at half the price of my Farm Supplies shop as well. How did this thread turn into an advert for Decathlon :D

Anyone going today, let us know if the traveler camp is still there?

Yep still there....about 15 caravans taking up around two thirds of the car park. Lots of dogs running around and the two ponies grazing on a tiny patch of grass next to cars. Apparently they have been there since Friday evening and the police have no jurisdiction to make them leave.

Ahhh I wondered what was going on when I rocked up first thing Saturday morning, nothing surprises me at that Decathlon though, it's like a gauntlet getting to the horsey bit, dodging rogue archery arrows and children on bicycles!

When I saw it the site was clean and tidy, with one well behaved dog (asleep) and two tiny ponies. There were no towing vehicles in sight, so presumably they had work somewhere that they had driven off to. It just seems such an odd place to be, but if the pyramid site was previously a permanent traveller place which has been lost and not replaced, I can understand it better.

I have direct dealings with both Romany gypsies and Irish travellers through my work and my hobbies on a regular basis. I also have friends who work in special needs education teaching traveller children with disabilities.

Also, re your Irish work colleague - two wrongs don't make a right. I spend a lot of time back and forth in Ireland and have a number of Irish friends - traveller and non-traveller. None of them feel the need to refer to groups of people in such a way, regardless of how individuals within that group have behaved in the past.

Your earlier comments were unjustified. Simple.
