So me and my daughter are wanting to do a fun ride, that is about 30 mins drive away. My daughters pony a Welsh sec a doesn't really like my cob that much and is always pulling faces and will lunge at him over the stable door. They have never been turned out together. We have hacked out lots of times together side by side no trouble.
So my question is would they be OK to travel together in a trailer?
Might seem a silly question

They'll be fine, do you have a mesh guard at the head of the trailer so they can't touch?

Make sure you tie to the side short enough that they can't bite each other, or strap a large haynet between them as a barrier

I recently travelled my mare with a gelding from a totally different yard in a trailer, she was fine, more interested in her hay than she was in him. We just kept them tied short as a precaution.

On Saturday I travelled my boy with the girl who was riding him at competitions mare. They have hacked out a few times but never met as such. Was a 3 hour journey! Tied them short and they had their own haynet each. There were no issues and they are now definitely an item!

Really depends on how much they take a dislike to each other, and I'd strongly consider getting a head partition. Personally, unless I absolutely knew they would be OK, then I wouldn't - a girl on our yard had a nasty trailer accident resulting in one horse being PTS. It is believed the 2 horses started to fight causing the trailer to snake uncontrollably leading to it overturning on the motorway.

Even in a horsebox with horses that get on well with each other I use full height and head partitions. Not worth the risk.

I do this fairly often. Daughter's and a friends or whatever. They sometimes fight if tied too long so i just make sure i tie them up so they are short enough not to be able to get at each other and off we go. I'd think twice about two i knew disliked each other.

i traveled mine with a pony he doesn't really know on Saturday (been on same yard together before, but never turned out together). My pony is a drama queen squealer but they were absolutely silent :)

I doubt a head partition will do much for a Sec A - he'll be too low down for it! A hay net tied to the front of the partition at his head height should work.

My share horse is a bit of a bully but it doesn't stop me taking others - even ones he doesn't know. I just warn people in quite strong terms. One friend borrowed a head partition, others were happy to tie up short.

Once, I took a kid from riding club's pony to a competition as her dad was ill so she couldn't get there and all the way I could feel the trailer lurching as one launched at the other. I fully expected the poor pony to be a quivering wreck when I took him off, but when we got there my boy had a big bite mark on his neck and new-found very healthy respect for the pony! By the time we'd dropped the pony home, they were calling to each other and have whickered at each other every time they've seen each other since. They'll be fine, especially if they ride out together.

Many years ago, when moving house, my little welshie did 200 miles in a shared lorry with a coupe of breeding stallions. He came out cool, calm and collected, but I never did find out what happened to the poor stallions, who were likely traumatised by the experience!

For a little pony he is very grumpy and bossy around other horses. When my daughter has a lesson on him I have to tell others not to get to close to him, but he's super safe for my daughter to ride. Which is all I want of him.
Thanks everyone for your experiences. I'll report back on how we get on.

Personally I'm a bit concerned about everyone's views to tie up short. We asked for a lift one day as our trailer was out of action. Admittedly our horse was put on the left side of the trailer (which we found out he doesn't like) but as we were driving in our car behind, we kept seeing him go down everytime the car went round a bend. The third time he didn't come back up. Luckily the driver stopped, we got the ramp down and he was just sitting there. I believe it was because not only that he couldn't travel on the left but the driver had tied him up short to stop him from touching their horse and when he lost his balance, he couldn't use his head to find his feet again.

The tying thing must be judged by the animal in question.
I had one who needed to be left untied, or he'd go down, but I've got another who must be tied, not only short, but down to the breast bar with a second rope - or he jumps the breast bar.

Both of them travel very well. Grumpy pony is in the trailer at least once a week. Although he usually travels on the right, but will have to go on the left if I'm taking my horse. He is 14.3 heavy cob, grumpy one is 11.2

I thought that might happen! My two bicker like anything but as soon as they go anywhere in the trailer together they're best buds. Doesn't last long before they get on each other's nerves again.

Aww that's cute :)

I'd be wary with mine because small pony has to be tied loosely and can't have hay so no haynets but most normal pairs would be grand with a big fat haynets filling the gap I'd have thought...
