Okay, I've booked a vets appointment to get the tablets for travel sickness, but now thinking about making her as comfy as possible for the journey.
I have her usual crate, which TBh is a bit big for travelling and once in the car leaves no room for anything else. She's a tiny JRT so I've looked at the plastic cat carriers, but not sure if she'd do better being able to see out of the window or being enclosed? Not sure if this new medicine will sedate her or what?

Also, would it be better to put her in the boot (hatchback) or on the back seat seat belted in?

I plan on not feeding her prior to the journey, and have found a country park to stop at on the way for loo/ water, but want to make this journey as comfy as possible. We've got to travel for an hour and a bit. I've planned every day around her so she;s not left alone for long periods and lots of outdoorsy stuff that welcomes dogs.

She gets VERY sick, literally within 5 minutes of setting off she's retching and salivating. To take her to kennels is half hour journey anyway, so figured she may as well come with us if I've got to medicate her anyway? Or am i being horrid in making her travel that far? her mum has the same issue and her breeder said he just doses her up with the tablets he uses and travels them up and down the country. If they're sick, he says, he just stops, offers water, changes the blanket, and sets off again. he says after a while they stop being sick and just settle down, and over time he needs less medicine.

Any thoughts, tips and advice would be really welcome.

I have a young bitch who was a terrible traveller at first. On early journeys even as short as 15 minutes she would salivate so much over everything including her sister that the bedding, and sister would be wringing wet. I just persevered with a short journey everyday, even just to the village 3 miles away. Not much improvement then decided to try travelling her in a crate with the side covered so she could not see out of the vehicle and we have not looked back since. No more salivating or sickness, that was a year ago. Now she travels fine anway and anyhow in or out of a crate. May or may not work for another dog but worth trying. Also friends swear by the Bach rescue remedy for their car sick dogs, and another says spraying DAP in the travelling area has help her dog.

My border terrier used to suffer really badly from travel sickness. I think it's more stress induced than anything - so I spent some time taking him on little journeys - travelling him as smoothly and comfortably as possible. I try to make the corners/braking as easy as possible as I find that when my husband drives (he likes to pretend he's an F1 driver or a Rally driver at times) that we allllll get stressed, but especially the wee border terrier.

I used to use an herbal tincture just before going in the car, and that would take off the edge. and I find that he's much happier in the boot of the hatchback with his bed. The seats he can fall off, and the floor he can't get a look out...

He's still not the BEST traveller, but has improved lots!
And don't feed the morning before travelling, that might at least reduce the mess!

I can't be much help on the travel sickness, however as far as travelling, Atlas do a mini version of thier travel crates which might fit on your backseats (belted in of course). I have an Atlas carrier and they are very good.
