Travelling again

I don’t know the back story to this so apologies if not appropriate for your dog, can you give her a lick mat and/or a kong when she gets in the car and no more treats?

We have a Lintrans crate which is ex Police I believe. I’ve used it for my 14kg lurcher in the past - it’s long thin and tall and the door only covers half the long side, so cosy and the door could be covered. It’s also white, helpful in a warm car. When I get out of bed (where I am with said lurcher!) I will take a pic for you.

Ah thank you. I’ve done the kong and lick mat thing. Once she’s finished the barking will start.

My boxes are from DT, they're rear facing but you can get models to fit most vehicles. They and TransK9 and other brands come up on FB Marketplace periodically. To be honest I'd just strap an airline crate along with back seats and see how that works, that's what I did for three years when I had three dogs. I have four or five around the place, all bought second hand from FB or Gumtree.

Sensible. Also wondered about the soft kennel options?

That might work depending on how opaque it is. In my experience my own dogs travel best when they feel enclosed/secure/sheltered so I'd be looking for something as stable and dark as possible. When I had the crate along the back seats I wodged it in place with the passenger seat and bolstered it with things to make sure it was flat/stable and as few wobbles and creaks as possible.

Something like this potentially?

That's what I used along the back seats and in my last vehicle when I only had one dog. But these are what my dogs sleep in, in the house, so it's not a huge leap for them.

They can be picked up relatively cheaply. I did use a fabric one for the young dog on the back seat when she was a pup before she graduated to the rear boxes.

I’ve bought this to trial on back seat or in the boot. She went in happily enough. Can easily cover it so she can’t see out. And won’t block rear view. £20 travel cot from eBay!

I think she likes it. Will keep it in the house a while so she’s used to it. Really hope she realises it it’s to make her like down and keep her more comfortable.

How do you secure her when she travels? Seat belt to a harness?
In that configuration she’d have to go behind the dog guard in the back or behind a dog guard on the back seat with a hammock. It’s all about making it hard for her to stand up. Currently I’m clipping harness to seat belt yes.
