Well hopefully *fingers crossed* me and the old Arab are moving together to somewhere! Only problem is that it's an hour away from where we live. She's travelled once in 8 years and that was only a half an hour journey. Do they ever loose the ability to travel? She competed internationally for 14 years so she's very used to travelling and doesn't stress with it. (did Scotland to Wembely haha)
Would you start small journeys now to get her used to travelling longer distances.

Advice and stories would be loved!

I don't know of any bad examples or stories of elderly horses.

We travelled our 28yo pony fine - she never lost it. You could just make sure before the day of travel that's she happy getting up and down the ramp. She's healthy and fit and from her younger days of travelling all over she doesn't sound like she would panic or stress.
With a horsebox (if your not driving) you could walk through and check her on the journey - smothe her if she not relaxed.
Drive slowly - 1hr isnt to far IMO.

We brought our old TB back from his summer grazing in the big wagon - it was the first time he'd travelled in a big wagon for many years and the first time he'd travelled since his pair bond died. We were a bit concerned about him but he just marched on like the old pro he is, turned himself round for the partition without having to ask, and then travelled perfectly.

Hopefully your girl will be the same. She'll probably be disappointed when she gets there and finds it's just another field and not a party.

When a farming friend re-located to wales they took their 30ish year old mare with them. She travelled fine and settled in prety much straight away, even though she had only ever travelled a max of 10 times in her life.
Im sure your girl will be fine :) x

Oldest horse travelled by my friends horse transport company

52!

Hadn't travelled in 30 years!

Went from south wales to isle of skye - got no teeth but my friend personally kept stopping every 2 hours and made 'soup' for the horse

Lived another 3 years after!
