I need to buy the boy (16.3 big boy!) some Travelling boots! How exciting!

They have to be:
- easy to get on and off (not have a dozen fiddly straps on each boot!)
- have protective, hard kick-guards at the bottom
- ideally have some kind of air-flow built in so they dont get too hot in them?

Any ideas? (And of course i'd prefer it if they didn't cost a zillion pounds!)

Thanks y'all!

I quite like the Mark Todd ones & they fullfill all criteria except the airflow one. I also have WoofWear ones which again are ok except they dont machine wash. I havent really come across cool but protective.

I would second the mark todd ones. Really good quality. They aren't vented, but may be breathable? My boy has worn them for fairly long journeys and I haven't ever noticed his legs getting hot or sweaty.

Caldene!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just as you want them, and the lining (instead of fleece or other non-natural fabric which can heat the legs up) is a cotton waffle material, which is ideal (does not make the legs sweat at all)

I also had your same criteria (three or four straps, extra protection on heel, and non-heating) I couldn't be happier with mine, they are my dream travelling boots (I also have the Mark todd ones and there is no comparison).

I paid about £50 for them (incl. tail guard)

Just google them, this is the first result which came up:

I bought them on Equestrian Clearance

The Full Size Mark Todd boots fit my big 17hh gelding really well, don't slip or twist and are easy to get on and off with 3 big straps. He never gets hot in them, even when I travel with his bandages on underneath. They are also really hard wearing, mine are about 6 years old and still going strong.

I have Hoys travel boots - they are fantastic, 2 big velcro closures on each one and a very tough plastic bit round the bottom of each. Before those Bloss went through 6 sets of different travel boots in as many months! Shes had those tho for nearly 5 years!

Ive done a search online and cant find them tho, so not sure if they are made anymore :(

I love my Bucas travel boots (think they're about £85 a set). Even horses I've had that dislike wearing travel boots have worn these with no problems. Easy to put on/take off, but don't slip - and they wash really easily!!

i'm happy with my weatherbeetta ones - never slip, easyto put on/take off, don't seem to heat legs up and easy to bung in washing machine :) (although i tned to not do that due to manageing to break last washing machine withh too much washing of rugs/numnahs/boots etc - oops!)

I wish a company would design aircooled travel boots. I hate the way they heat horses legs up, especially after competition when you want cooling. If a company could come up with protective boots that didn't heat tendons and ligaments I'm sure they would do really well. Like the Dalmar boots but for travel?

Halfstep, there are boots on the market which have air holes through them
They are designed by the ppl who do Equi N Ice.

I have Mark Todd and Eskadron travel books and both are brilliant. Used MT for years and they withstand constant washing and useage.

I have used the PE ones and they are just as good.

I don't use any Travel Boots now, ive had problems with all my horses not loading well or traveling well in them, got rid of the Travel boots & all load & travel brilliantly.

So i now do this If my horse is just going out Training then i use my normal boots & overreach boots. If not i use my Thematex leg wraps with over reach boots.

BBs: can you remember the name of the air-hole boots that the Equi n ice people do? I looked on their website http://www.equiplus.co.uk/ but can't see them there? They sound very interesting!

The Caldene boots sound good though too... I like the sound of the cotton lining... hmmmm!

I like the Woof ones, not crazy expensive and well shaped with decent strike pads, although not overly hard-wearing if your horse is a tricky loader like mine

ps I think you mean a deep GULLET on the saddle teehee :D :D :D

Love my Weatherbeeta ones. They're the ones with 3 wide straps, fluffy fleece lining. They never slip, fit extremely well (including a chunky Welsh Cob I had) and are very heardwearing - mine are still going strong after 7 years of regular use!

BBs: it seems to show on the site link you posted, that with those travel boots you put the cooling bandage on underneath, then a special travel boot over the top? Have you used them before? Is that how they worked?

G&T: No, i definitely meant 'gusset'!! It's the padded bit that's nearest the horses loins, underneath the seat - My horse has an enormous wither so we need extra deep gussets to bring the seat up a bit, otherwise i'm riding at the bottom of a hill!! x

Never use them SF.
But I saw them say at the likes of Badminton and other high end horse trials and thought they were a very good idea.
However having just bought a pair of ordinary ones I was loathed to purchase these.

I have found travel boots to cause injury and have had several nasty incidents with them. Haven't used them for 10 years now and since then have never had any injury.

Oh right I'm with ya! Haha sorry I hear gusset and my juvenile mind thinks only of knickers... how ignorant I am :o

I've had the Mark todd ones for a good few years now, my horse used to step on his other hoof and cause cuts. The mark todd boots completely prevented this, and look great too. The have also stood the test of time!
