Travelling Dilemma

Hi,

Just some advise really....

Well, I have managed to get my horse loading into my Ifor Williams single trailer without him backing up, rearing etc

My dilemma now is...

He will load, but when travelling he moves around a bit and comes off the trailer afterwards dripping with sweat and his legs are shaking

Do I??

Carry on taking him round the block and get him used to it (I would prefer this option as its a lot cheaper than getting a lorry)
or
Get a horse box which I know he is semi comfortable in

Just to let you know, once he has been out, I then put him back on the trailer with not much hesitating

Anyone have this problem? and how did you overcome this?

I wonder whether he finds a single trailer too narrow for him to get his balance. Would agree that it would be worth borrowing a lorry/double trailer just as an experiment. My big horse found that by opening the back section of the partition in a double trailer he could keep his balance better.
 
I recently took my horse out in my trailer with the partition in and she was hesitant in loading and generally not too happy, however today I went out again and took the partition out completely - she walked straight in and travelled like a dream!! Maybe your horse just finds the single trailer too narrow and would be fine if given more space? Would at least be worth a try to borrow/hire a double trailer and remove the partition before the extra expense of a lorry. Good luck, I hope things work out for you!!
 
I have tried him in a double trailer and he hated it, wouldnt even go in the damn thing, he will load in my single trailer with no problems now. Its just the travelling part that he is having the issues with

My single is wider than the doubles, he has loads of room each side.

He has been in a horse box herringbone, and is sweating in that too, and barges past when loading him.

Good news, I took him out again tonight and he was so much better. Wasnt sweating but felt hot, and loaded again straight away with no problems, so think I need to continue to do this every night and see how to goes :D
