Who has to travel for business with overnight stays? I have had to for most of my career. Off to Birmingham now for 4 days to work.

Bit wierd as first time in 15 years I have no Homey to think about whilst on business trip.

I usually don't do more than one or two trips a year in this job. I was asked to go to Germany for a business trip but that clashes with my prebooked AL. My boss can't get any other senior staff to go. We are struggling to get people to travel now and do overnight stays due to kids or other family commitments.

I used to do it all the time averaging about 100 flights a year. So far this year though I have only done one three night trip to Switzerland.

It's always been a norm for me (uk), but its been steadily reducing and covid brought a real step change. I think people don't want to give up so much time/take so much disruption anymore (working in an actual office is a ask for many now). And for companies, virtual tools like Teams and Zoom save a lot of money (as does homeworking and less office space!) on travelling and helps a lot with work/like balance, sustainability and environmental goals too.
We just travel now when being face to face delivers a real benefit to the team and the outcomes we want from the meeting. Personally I did enjoy it and would be happy to travel but I'm also glad not to have to often now as my older horse is getting older and has twice daily needs, I don't like to be away from him for long.

Head of Communications.

I am travelling less than in my previous role I was doing lots of events all over the country.

I try and do them in day trips if it is just a one day site visit.

Props to you for being really dedicated 👏 I don't think I could ever haha What job do you do?

Frequently for 2/3 days at a time. Maybe 2-3 times a month. Heading back to the states tomorrow and then first week in may will be Denver-Salt Lake City-Phoenix-Denver

I love it!!

In a couple of previous jobs I've had to travel occasionally. It's been a mix of short trips and prolonged trips I've done a couple of conferences in Florida and a few weeks in Africa (Sierra Leone and Malawi). I also had a job that involved 3 months in Poland one year and then 2 years based in Sweden for 3 months over each summer.

I don't mind it, but with the longer trips, it gets to a point when I just want to come home and get back into my comfortable routine.

There's no travel in my current job.

I always used to before I retired. I enjoy a night or three away from home in a hotel. Four nights is plenty though.

I am now sitting waiting to have some lunch. Part of my job involves stands at conferences hence the reason for travel.

Today meetings start at 4.00pm and then I should finish about 8pm

The next 3 days are 7.30 am to 7.30 pm with meetings and events so it is quite full on.

Yes I do although not as much as I did prior to Covid. It has fluctuated over the years depending on what I’ve been working on. Work seems to want us to meet up more again. I went to a workshop in Bristol last week staying overnight the night before to meet up with agile delivery colleagues whom I really like. The workshop was useful too. This Tuesday I’ve got a face to face team meeting in London which I’m go8ng to for the day. Birmingham is usually the most frequent location for national meetings. It takes me over 4.5hrs each way and often I do it all in one day so as not to lose an evening. I usually get up at 4.50 am to get the the 5.40am train and get home about 9pm. No overtime or recompense.

In principle I like meeting with colleagues but I hate train travel. It takes me hours to get anywhere in antiquated trains, they’re unreliable and I can get travel sick. I also really resent the personal costs such as dog and horse care especially as my pay is worth 20% less than a decade ago. My dog sitter (he stays with her) cost £50 last week which is nearly twice as much as it was 5 years ago, fortunately a friend did my horse.

Used to travel lots for work, mainly Europe, Middle East and Far East though a couple of trips to SA and Australia too. Usually between 1 and 2 weeks for long haul shorter for some European destinations.

Really miss it, I'm finding it difficult to cope with a whole English winter without a break to somewhere really hot.

Not me, but my husband does. He flies regularly and has travelled to many countries. Some of his adventures really scare me though, I think living in the UK makes us unprepared for how other societies function.

I did before covid. My office was in Germany, so I'd pop over for a couple of days every few weeks, largely for the social aspect, along with visits to various European factories.

After covid, I only went to UK sites, and only when it was absolutely necessary.

That contract has now finished, and I'm (supposed to be) job hunting. I'd quite like another job with a bit of travel, but only a night or two away at a time.

Me! Horse is on full livery so not a problem care wise but it can be annoying missing out on yard events.
I used to struggle with loneliness whilst travelling but now I treat the time in my room / down time in the hotel as “self care” if I haven’t got work to do. I make sure I have lots of books on my kindle and I take sewing if I’m in the UK

We are all struggling with sleeping due to how hot the hotel rooms are. Even whacking the aircon on I still can’t get it to below 21C.

Normal temp for sleeping comfortably for me is 16C.

Tomorrow is going to be a really long day as I have a 7.30am start and won't finish probably till 9.30.

Tonight we have a work meal and going to a Chinese restaurant.

I feel I have been very productive today. It has been quite intense.

Once every other month for 1 night, max 2. We’re all fairly comfortable with it as a team as we WFH full time and as far as I’m concerned this is a compromise I’m willing to make for that.

Quite often but only within the UK. I'm never away for more than 2 nights though I do often get back at stupid o'clock in the morning. I usually have a co-driver too.
