Travelling help needed!

When we travel our ISH gelding in a box he constantly bites the other horse, however, he only does this with other geldings. My problem being that the horses that travel to competitions with are all going to be geldings as there are no mares that go competing at our yard.
What i need all you lovely forum members to help me with is a solution to help me stop him taking chunks out of the other horses necks :)

p.s a friend suggested a grazing muzzle, however this means that he wouldnt be able to have a haynet for the journey. What do you all think? :)

Could you fit head dividers/partitions?
My boy likes to bite his travel buddies too :confused: so we've got extra-height partitions with large head dividers going into the lorry to stop him hurting anyone.
If you have a larger lorry could you put an empty stall between them?

Thanks, we would seperate them with a partition, however, we dont have our own box so use a friends. We also tried tying him up short but he still tried to bite and snapped his leadrope. Thanks for your suggestions :)

this is what i would have done if it was our own trailer but sadly it isn't :( and its only a 2 horse trailer otherwise your plan would work :/

Got a metal grid that can come on/ off one of the partitions in our box for one of my sisters ponies, she travels at one end so only one side for her to go for ;)
 
We ended up with the poor old groom in the trailer with the two horses to make sure muppet didn't bite :eek:
Totally not legal even in Dubai (and most people drive like they're doing the Monaco grand prix)

If you have an Ifor WIlliams, these head partitions are readily available.

They're around £80 ish so not cheap, but I'm sure they would solve your problem. :)
 
Thanks for everyones suggestions but as stated there isnt much i can do to the trailer as it isnt mine. So might just end up tying him tight or as friend suggested travel him in a grazing muzzle :/

Invest in a bite guard/grill - it could save you a vet bill/accident

A number of years ago I travelled a pony in a trailer for 2 miles. We didnt know the horse we were travelling with was a biter but my pony came out the other end with a bite above her eye (she was very lucky). This biting horse was later involved in a trailer accident -a number of factors caused the trailer to roll (going downhill, towing weights, snaking etc) but I am sure 2 large horses fighting in the back did not help. Biting in a small space like a trailer is potentially dangerous - it could easily be a horses eye.

I would either put up a grill or use a muzzle. If your only option is to muzzle I would be tempted to take the hay away from both. If its an Ifor williams trailer could you buy the grill for your friend if she is giving you a lift?

Thank you for your help, we are going to load them into the box and see what happens when not in motion and if anything starts up then i will slip his muzzle on :)
 
Have you tried double tying?

My friends horse sometimes tries to bite my horse when travelling so we tie up as normal and then attach another lead rope to the side of his head collar and the side of the lorry so that he can't turn to the left and take a chunk out of my horse!

It does the job.
