Travelling in a trailer in the dark do you..

we have an equitreck multi treka so ita a bit different for us from normal bt we leave the main light off and put the light on in the different compartment this gives them just enough light so they can see what they are doing but isnt dazzling

we do this because the darker it is the better they seem to travel bt dont lk the thought of them being totaly in the dark

I think it is illegal under the new european laws to travel them at night without a light on - Might be wrong but worth checking?

I was told this by somebody, too.

never thought about it! got a trailer over summer though so i'll bung the light on when i travel over winter

My OH won't let me leave the light on as he is anxious about its proximity to the hay and the fire risk (and I guess he has a point). I guess it depends on what type of setup you have. Be interesting to know if it is a legal requirement for sure or not>

Definately off. I travelled behind a friend in the dark last winter & she had the light on and it was quite obviously glaring into her horses eyes. It probably depends on where the light is in your trailer but in the Ifor Williams it is positioned to one side at virtual eye level so it must be really awful for the horse to have this on in the dark. I'm guessing a light positioned a bit more sensibly would not be so bad!

I have an old Rice trailer. The light is positioned on the roof and automtically comes on when you put the headlights on.

The biggest pain is when you get to your destination as you have to leave the lights on your towing vehicle to have light inside the trailer....but that is a job i'm going to be giving to my OH to sort out.....hehe

simplest solution to that is the stick on LED lights that JML and others do. The do seem to fall off eventually when its been a bit damp but we have 2 up front and 2 near the ramp (to light the ramp) and you just push them to turn them on. Its a bit eery blue light but does the job.

We got them because the ifor light is rubbish being under the haynets, the richardson was a better light and higher up.

The law states that no white light must be visible from behind, so if a light is on, the doors must be shut.
