What is the best way to travel a horse in a lorry? We've a 2/3 horse Iveco with herringbone partitions. I've tried him with the partitions tight to lean on, wide to allow him to spread his legs (partitions go to floor), bum nearer to cab than head, head nearer than bum, in a 'loosebox' type arrangement but whatever I try, he arrives in a muck sweat even on a 10 minute drive. We drive carefully but he still seems to have trouble balancing. So - what is the 'proper' or preferred way you travel your beasties? PS mine is 17.3 and chunky.

apparently research is showing a lot of horses prefer to travel facing backward. could you find a rear facing lorry to try him in, with a view to altering your partitions?

my connemara prefers tight partitions, if i dont have them practically squeezing him then he sweats loads however my little welsh b needs room enough for 2 ponies. so i think it depends on the horse/pony

Make sure the partitions are angled enough to ensure the horse has enough room length wise. A 17.3hh is going to take up a lot of room and I know with ours (at 16hh and 16.1hh) I have to really make sure I have the partitions angled enough so their bums aren't squashed against the wall or anything otherwise you go round bends and they won't have enough room infront or behind!

Some horses just do sweat up and are not comfortable travelling though unfortunately but generally most do seem to travel better in wagons than trailers I'v found.
